Cam is a volunteer with the Burbank Y Swim Team and also helps with lifeguarding in the pool. Welcome Cam! Donna filled the AAB in on the Spring II Session and said that a majority of our classes were full and especially the Pre-School Classes and that they were still looking for more instructors. Donna also shared that the Spring II session is our busiest session of the year. Many parents are signing their children up for swim lessons to get them ready for the summer season. Donna presented a summary of the Aquatics facility survey to the AAB and went over the issues surrounding the pool. A large portion of the survey surrounded the cleanliness of the Ladies Locker room. Dan said that he would follow up on the results of the survey with Pete and address the cleanliness issue immediately. Other issues brought out by the survey included the following: Lack of parking Temperature of big pool being too cool Family locker room size (too small) Lack of sidewalks on side of building Various issues regarding program times Ken Holbrook mentioned that we should contact Officer Iapicca or Officer Veno with the Reading Police Dept to ask them what we could do to help with the parking situation, especially with the teachers from the schools that are using the YMCA's spaces. Dan Berry said that he would contact them and ask for some suggestions. It was suggested also that we post sign in the parking lot informing people that the let was for patrons of the YMCA only. Dan Berry informed the AAB that a pool acoustics study by Noise Control Engineering is scheduled to take place at the end of May. The YMCA of Greater Boston decided that we needed to do the study before we invested a large sum of money installing a system that we were not sure was going to solve the problem. Dan shared the written proposal with the AAB. Donna reported that preparation for the summer session swim program was under way and that she would have a tentative schedule ready for the next meeting. Donna also talked about some minor adjustments in the schedule but that everything went relatively smooth last summer. Donna and her staff are going to work on a summer pass for individuals and families who would like to use the facility in the summer from June 25tH = August 31 St. Donna also informed the AAB that she is looking at the demand for classes in the summer and will be going to 4 week sessions that will meet twice a week instead of the normal 8-week session that meets once a week. The reason for doing this was to accommodate families that liked to take vacation in the summer. The aquatics dept also has expanded its offering of Strength & Splash classes as well as Gym & Spin classes for the summer The AAB briefly talked about the Reading Contract and pointed out some high lights from the meeting in March. Ken Holbrook emphasized that he would like to have some swim meets on Friday nights during the season and to have more opportunities for AOA (active older adults) to participate in programming in the pool, as well as provide some type of transportation for them to and from the YMCA. Donna & Dan both said that Friday swim meets could be scheduled in periodically throughout the season. Dan said that he would speak to Pete about more program offerings for AOA members and non- members. With Time expiring the AAB adjourned the meeting. Next AAB Meeting is scheduled for June 4th at 6:30pm at the Burbank YMCA.
