She said that she wanted to be able to spend more time with her family. Dan told Tina that she needed to contact Peter Hechenbleikner to inform him that she was resigning so that he could find a replacement. Tina stated that she would do so. Donna Griffith reported that the Fall I session was going well and there were 1001 participants signed up for classes and using the pool each week. This count does not include open, lap, recreational, family swims and swim teams that use the pool each day. Donna stated that the Burbank Y was still experiencing staffing challenges with the pool in that the Y is not able to offer all the classes that could be offered due to lack of staff available. She pointed out that this was a trend nationally with a lack of certified guards and instructors. Donna and Amy Vendt updated us on the Fall II Session and said that there are not many changes from Fall I and that they are continuing to search for staff. Amy pointed out the AAB that we are continually offering life guard training courses and that people who obtain their certification are given the opportunity to become guards and instructors at the Y. She also pointed out that if the class participants became staff members that the Y paid for the cost of the certification course. Dan Berry informed the Board that the Wakefield YMCA pool was closed indefinitely due to many repairs that needed to be made to the facility. He explained that due to financial challenges within the branch and the association that the Y could not afford to keep the Wakefield pool open any longer and continue to operate it at a financial loss. David Bryant requested that we keep the side door unlocked to the pool during the girls swim meets so they spectators could come in and out and not track dirt all over the pool deck. There was some discussion that took place between Donna, Amy, Dan and Dave about the challenges of keeping the door open all the time during a meet. It was decided that the front desk should have a key to the door so that they could lock and unlock it when needed. Dan Berry said that he would look into getting a key for the front desk. Donna said that she had received the meet dates from Ken Holbrook (Boys HS Swim Team Coach) and that she had a couple of conflicts with the meet dates but that she and Ken would be able to work them out. Dan Berry passed out a draft of the "Learn to Swim Program" (Free Swim Lesson Program Voucher). Torn O'Rourke suggested that some of the wording be changed to clarify the voucher. Dan said that the voucher would be distributed before the next AAB - meeting on October 22"a Tom O'Rourke recommended that the Y put out PSA to inform the Town of Reading that the credit voucher has been distributed to all the schools in the Town and that the free swim lessons is part of the YMCA's commitment to fulfilling the agreement to the town. Dan said that he would get out an announcement about the Swim voucher when it was distributed to the school. With the resignation of Tina Truedson, Dan Berry suggested that we take a look at term limits for members of the AAB. Tom O'Rouke agreed and said that we should look at the charter and have a discussion about it at the next AAB meeting. With time expiring the meeting was adjourned. NEXT AAB MEETING WILL BE HELD ON 10/22/01 AT THE BURBANK YMCA.
