The Town Manager's Assistant informed Dan that they were advertising the position on the AAB as being vacant and would replace the position when someone from the Town showed interest. Donna Griffith and Amy Vendt reported that over 1,000 people were using the pool on a weekly basis. This count did not include use of pool by the High School and Burbank Blue fins swim teams. Donna and Amy also reported to the AAB that the pool would not be running classes from December 23t - January 6th during the Holiday Season. It was announced that the pool would be closed to all use on Dec. 26th - Dec 28th for its annual cleaning. Donna, Amy and Gen Kuksin (YMCA Facilities Director) will be cleaning the pool deck as well as well as the pool itself to get it ready for the Winter Session. Donna stated that she would be contacting the North Suburban Y as well as the Woburn Boys & Girls Club to find Swim Team practice time for the Reading HS Boys Swim Team as well as the Burbank YMCA Bluefms Team. Donna reported that she has been in touch with Ken Holbrook and is working with him via email in setting up the Reading HS Boys Swim meet schedule. Practice times would remain the same as the previous two years ...3:00pm to 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Lois reported that her Reading HS Girls Swim Team was performing well. The team was 4-1 and she had 12 girls going to the Sectional Championships. Lois expressed concern with how the YMCA staff worded its signs regarding pool closures for High School Swim Meets and said that we should not be wording signs that read, "We apologize for the inconvenience" and instead should say something different that is not offensive to coaches and team members. Donna and Dan apologized for wording the signs incorrectly and said that in the future they would change the signs to something more agreeable to the swim team and its coaching staff. Klaus Kubierschky asked how many swim team members were on the Burbank Y Bluefins. Donna reported that the team currently had 72 members and that they were accepting more onto the team throughout the month of November. Donna said that the Burbank Y Swim Team had 5 scheduled home meets and that the last meet would be held on January 19th. f- Dan Berry stated that the Learn to Swim coupon for a free. class of swim lessons went out to all Reading Kindergarten students/parents. Approximately 350 free swim lesson class vouchers were circulated through Reading public schools. The vouchers are good until September 1St 2002. Dan Berry presented to the AAB the possibility of providing pool rental time to the Austin Prep Swim Team. Dan stated that this would have a minimal effect on the current usage by the Reading High School Boys Swim Team and that he has contacted Phil Vaccaro (Reading HS Athletic Director) to discuss any issues that he may have with the Austin Prep team practicing with the Reading Boys Swim Team. Dan further stated that the Austin Prep team would only practice for 1 hour 3 afternoons a week and will also utilize the pool two mornings a week for practice. Phil discussed the proposal with Ken Holbrook (Reading Boys HS Swim Coach) and Ken was supportive of the proposal and stated that he could give up one lane to the Austin Prep squad. Dan stated that the Reading Boys Swim Team has not been charged for use of the pool since the YMCA opened in 1999 because of budget challenges with the town and that allowing the Austin Prep team to practice would allow the YMCA recoup some of the money they are losing from the Reading HS Boys team. There was a fair amount of discussion around Austin Prep using the YMCA pool but in the end it was agreed that if the YMCA could make the rental work without much disruption to the HS team that it would be okay to do it. Dan stated that the agreement with AP would be on a year-to-year basis and would be evaluated by the YMCA and AAB at the end of 2001-2002 season. Tom O'Rourke discussed term limits for AAB Members and made a motion to propose that we start a three year rotation with a staggered set-up for each member so that new members would rotate on the AAB at different times while veteran members rotated off with the same three year rotation. The AAB members agreed that this system may be a good starting point and that we should table the issue for further discussion at the next AAB meeting. Dan Berry proposed that the next AAB meeting be held a week earlier than the normal "4th Monday of the month" and be held on Nov. 19th. The AAB members agreed and the meeting was set. With time expiring the meeting was adjourned. NEXT AAB MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE BURBANK YMCA ON NOVEMBER 19, 2001. i i~ N ) m E ~ O L Q 4 0 (V ' O ^ C ~Q 0 O s O O co L U t6 0 -0 cu N ~ -0 E y . > N v F1 c O lz 1 8 E ' . ~ O f/1 W ~ ~ C G N M CO N I- ~j (p N T M p' x X cY?
