HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-01-13 Aquatic Advisory Board MinutesBurbank YMCA Aquatic Advisory Board Meeting Minutes Monday January 13, 2003 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tom O'Rourke at 6:30 PM. Lois was assigned recording secretary. Present were Dan Barry, Tom O'Rourke, Amy Vendt, Klaus Kubierschky, Mary Ellen O'Neil, Lois Margeson and Ken Holbrook. The board accepted the December minutes. Tom's inspiration was for all good things to continue in the New Year. Proud new father Dan told us about his baby daughter, Margaret. Amy reported Winter Session met youth targets, approx. 75 more participants then in r winter 02. There were 35 responses from free swim program. Rec swim difficult with Sat. swim meets. Sundays are better and February should be better still. Tom said the surveys are especially helpful to the board. 20 lifeguards participated in a challenge at the pool in January. Skills were tested in four areas. Andrew Campbell was the speed winner. Bluefins Swim Team doing well, training trip to Conn. very successful. Mary Ellen suggested modifications for 6 yr. Olds on the swim team. Austin Prep has three Friday swim meets beginning Jan. 17. They opted for no AM practices. Dan is negotiating the use of Austin Prep fields in the summer. Reading Rec Dept. Update, Dan met with new director, John Futo, a 95' RMHS graduate. They are working on fees and trading facility field space. New programs should be studied and deadline for summer brochure was mentioned RMHS Swim Teams, Lois will report on banner and record board when finalized. Ken suggested the advantages of a printer for the swim meet timing system. He has had problems at home meets with the meet program set up and 'who is working the system. Dan will check on the situation. Reading/ Lynnfield Swim Team is doing well, 3 state and 6 sectional qualifiers so far. 28 on the team, 19 boys, 9 girls, 8 from Reading, 20 from Lynnfield. YMCA shut down for repairs and pool acoustics in Dec. Xmas week went well and was completed ahead of schedule. This is the best time for repairs. Acoustic work is half way completed and will be completed, Phase Il next year same time frame.
