Ken Holbrook, RMHS Swim Team Coach Mary Ellen O'Neill, Board of Selectmen Rep. Tom O'Rourke, Burbank YMCA Rep. Cam Townsend, Burbank YMCA Rep. Staff Donna Griffith, Aquatics Director, Burbank YMCA The minutes of the May 24, 2004 meeting were accepted after the spelling of the word "board" in reference to the inspirational thought was corrected to "bored." Chairman Tom O'Rourke felt that a review of the agreement between the town of Reading and the Burbank YMCA had been done at the May meeting and did not need to be discussed at this meeting. He does want to work offline with the YMCA staff to go over the six benefits outlined in the agreement and present a "scorecard" at the next meeting of this board. Donna Griffith noted that a few adjustments had been made on the summer swim flyer to the adult lap swim and lap swim times. Mary Ellen O'Neill reported that the summer swim flyers had been distributed to the Reading Recreation office, the public library (in the children's room and in the lobby), and the Burbank Ice Arena. Donna noted that they would be available in the YMCA lobby the next day, June 22. Donna will also check with Laurie of the Burbank YMCA staff to see what publicity about the summer swim program has been released by the YMCA. Cam Townsend suggested that the Open Swim only schedule be given to the papers for publication. Publicity will be submitted to the Reading Chronicle, the Reading Advocate, and to Reading Community TV. On behalf of Lois Margeson, Donna reported that the girls' high school swim team will begin practice the last week of August; meets will start in September. Ken Holbrook reported that the boys' high school swim team raised $425 by holding a car wash. Also there are two new members of the team, one from Reading and one from Lynnfield. Lois Margeson, RMHS Swim 'T'eam Coach Cam reported that the YMCA championship meet will be held the first week of July in Dover, New Hampshire. Practices for the Bluefins will be optional through July with regular practices resuming the first full week after Labor Day. The "Kindergarten Voucher" chart, distributed at the meeting, was discussed. It was noted that it is important to get the number of vouchers distributed each year in order to calculate the redemption percentage. The redemption rate appears to be at least less than half, probably much lower. It was agreed to discuss, at the August meeting, ways to change and improve the distribution and promotion of the kindergarten vouchers. Tom indicated that he would like to see what actually appears in the papers about the summer swim program. Donna told the Board she would bring the pool usage statistics for May, June, and July to the August meeting. Agenda items for August include the "scorecard" for the benefits schedule of the agreement, marketing of the kindergarten voucher program, pool statistics, and the annual pool closing. The next meeting will be held Monday, August 23, 2004 at the Burbank YMCA at 6:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Mary Ellen O'Neill
