Committee Vice-Chair, Mary Ellen Stolecki, Rec. Committee Member, Steve Meehan, Rec. Committee Member, Rick Shaffer, Rec. Committee Member, Mary Ann Kozlowski, School Rep., John Feudo, Recreation Administrator. Guest: Peter Hechenbleikner, Town Manager The meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM. The Committee was asked to review the minutes from the January 12'h meeting. M. Stolecki made a motion to accept the minutes from the January 12th Recreation Committee meeting. M. Kozlowski seconded the motion. The motion passed in favor of acceptance of the minutes 5-0-0. Open Space and Recreation Master Plan The Recreation Committee discussed the topic of the Open Space and Recreation Master Plan tabled from the November Meeting. J. Feudo mentioned that the Board of Selectmen would be looking for a member of the Recreation Committee to serve on the Open Space and Recreation Master Plan committee. Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner stopped in briefly and spoke about the open space plan. The Master Plan is updated every 5 years. The Recreation Committee discussed possible candidates for the committee. Frank Driscoll and Jack Downing were discussed as members that might be interested. J. Feudo stated he would check with both Frank and Jack to see if they had interest in being part of the Open Space and Recreation Master Plan Committee. Recommendation Form The Recreation Committee discussed a document developed by J. Feudo and N. Swain as a recommendation form to provide to the Board of Selectmen. This document has been designed to give the Board of Selectmen a clear and detailed recommendation to include: 1) What was proposed? 2) The Recreation Committee's motion. 3) Supporting comments. 4) Any areas of concern. READING RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES FEB 9th 2005 CON'T The Recreation Committee made some minor changes to the form for administrative purposes.. M. Stolecki made a motion to accept the recommendation form as a working document that may be adjusted as needed. S. Meehan seconded the motion. Motion passes in favor of accepting the recommendation form as amended by a vote of 5-0-0. The form will be known as the Recreation Committee Project/Program Review Form. (See attached) Administrator's Report J. Feudo gave an update for current programs and gave an overview of the programs coming up for February vacation. J. Feudo discussed two new programs the division was interested in running during the summer. J. Feudo mentioned Dan McGrath had developed a card-playing program for adults. The program would not involve any real money and was an opportunity to learn how to play card with people with a similar interest. R. Shaffer stated he had some concerns with holding a program that could encourage the behavior of gambling. M. Kozlowski recommended asking the Town Manager for his opinion of whether this breached any Town philosophies/policies. J. Feudo stated he would find out for sure. J. Feudo stated he was interested in bringing back the Recreation Summer Softball Program. Last summer there were many requests for softball. J. Feudo stated he would like Frank Driscoll to be involved but was not sure if he could be paid as a director due to his membership on the Recreation Committee. J. Feudo stated he was still interested in running the program, even if Frank could not be the director. J. Feudo stated he would check with the personnel to find out if there is any conflict of interest violations. J. Feudo gave an update concerning Metro Rock and Leadership Camp 101. Both programs were presented to the Recreation Committee on January 12, 2005. J. Feudo stated that Metro Rock would be offered during February Vacation. There would be one-day set up for elementary school and one day for middle school. The fee for the program would be $38 per participant. Leadership Camp 101 will not be taking place in Reading. The directors of the clinic were unwilling to change the requests made by the Recreation Committee. The group felt they could not accommodate the requests of the Recreation Committee. J. Feudo mentioned that the summer programming guide would be available by the middle of march. J. Feudo discussed with the Recreation Committee the idea of a retreat. The committee felt that late June would work best for most. J. Feudo stated he would continue to work on getting a facilitator for the retreat. He thought it would be best to pick a few tentative dates that worked for most of the committee and the facilitator. M. Kozlowski and M. Stolecki gave the committee a brief update on behalf of the programming review sub-committee. The sub-committee is currently working on a revamped evaluation as well READING RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES FEB 9'h 2005 CON'T as a programming tool to be filled out by new contractors. Recreation Committee member Michael DiPietro offered to have the experts at his company review both documents and make suggestions. M. Stolecki made a motion to adjourn the meeting. R. Shaffer seconded the motion. Motion passes in favor of adjournment 5-0-0. Meeting adjourned at 8:38 PM.
