Administrator's Report
Summer programming is running well overall. Summer Camp numbers are growing at a good rate.
Girl's program (Basketball and Field Hockey) numbers are down and the boys programs are doing
well and continue to grow. We have licensed thirteen camps this year.
J. Feudo noted that there was vandalism at Hunt Park that consisted of cash register being stolen
and door kicked in at the shack. There was also some anti-Semitic graffiti that really escalates the
crime. Friends of Readng Recreation, Friends of Hunt Park and Reading Youth Baseball have
offered up a $500 bounty for any information related to the arrest of those that were responsible.
The estimated damages are $5500.00.
There will be a new playground built at Birch Meadow. There is $25,000 in the capital plan for the
project. We have about $40;000 to work with due to insurance money that the town received after a
portion of the playground was destroyed in a May storm. The PTO of Birch Meadow might
contribute another couple thousand to finish off the project. There will be a rock wall on the Birch
Meadow Drive side and it will be 8 ft tall. The rest of the funds from the removal of the portable
class rooms will be used for repaving.
The turf field at Parker is in the design phase. The town engineers are designing it. The drainage
and elevation have been looked at closely and we hope to have this on the Consevation Comm.
docket sometime in August and start procurement in September. The goal is for an Aprill st field
opening.
The lightening policy will be sent to Peter Hechenbleikner and Town Counsel before it is brought
back to the Rec. Committee.
