HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-02-12 Finance Committee MinutesC-f- Finance Committee Meeting February 12, 1997 The Finance Committee met at the Reading Public Library at 7:30 p.m. Present were Chairman Steve Blewitt, Vice Chairman Jim Keigley, FinCom members Nate White, Carol Grimm, Rocco Nenarella, Tom Green Jr., Richard McDonald, Secretary Maureen Vierra, and Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner. Also present was Fire Chief Donald Wood, Police Chief Edward Marchand, Tom Stohhnan, Ted Maclutyre, David Lee, Joe Delaney, Bob Keating, Dan. Driscoll, Gail Wood, and Bob Hillard. FinCom reviewed the Police Department budget. Some of their Fy 98 goals include adding 2 new police officers, 1 part time clerk, a school traffic clerk, a new radio for the cruiser, new office furniture, radar replacement, three new vehicles and the purchase and installation of new mobile data terminals. FinCom reviewed the Fire Department budget. Some of their Fy98 goals include hiring a new Assistant Chief, purchasing a carbon monoxide detector, and buying a new vehicle, a rescue tool, and breathing apparatus. FinCom reviewed the Public Works budget. Some of heir FY98 goals include adding a coop student to the engineering department, adding pavement repair and seasonal staff to do the repairs, increasing line painting and street sweeping, equipment replacement, increasing school ground maintenance and adding a turf treatment program. The Water department hopes to add a to hire an in-training treatment plant operator, and to buy a new copier. All departments requested an increase in their overtime budgets. On a motion by Green seconded by McDonald the Finance Committee voted to adjourn at 10:30 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for February 26, 1997 and will be held in the Superintendent's Meeting Room.
