Bill read letter of resigna- tion received from Nick Agneta. Nick had to resign to to family illness. He had hoped to prolong this, but felt it in the best interest of the Fin Comm. Bill will contact Pete Hechenbleikner, TM and seek to screen for a new member. It was explained that the $30K for the consultant at the.school was funded by a ,state grant (Chap 94-142 Spec Ed). This was not funded from the general school budget. Bob Munnelly requested that if a member had concerns regarding items relating to the schools, he would appreciate a call and he would be happy to .explain. Adverse comments and publicity only create more confusion. It was noted there will be over $1.1 million shortfall for FY 93. TM wants all available funds expended, real estate, stabilization fund, etc. TM to present balanced budget to Fin Comm. Fin Comm wants to set aside free cash and hold ($100,000). Bob Munnelly'reviewed school budget position based on TM figures. Some perceive the teachers step increases as a pay increase. Bill Burditt stated that the step-increases represent 5 teaching job. A question was raised as to the obligation to pay step increases by Caroll McMillan, since contracts have not been resolved or settled. Bob Munnelly gave review of step increases, what they are and how they play out. He also reviewed the one time revenue make-up and the agree- ment with Fin Comm to consider this. There needs to be confidnece and trust between the SC and FC, lets get out on right foot. Comments regarding the article in the Chronicle were made by SC as well as FC and the concensus was that the comments were meant to be supportive and not critical. Issues are the need for better working relationship, need to move forward by all departments. Matt Cummings suggested visiting schools, talk with teachers, students, parents. MINUTES - Finance Committee - 2 - 11-26-91 Caroll McMillan suggested ? elimination of step raises, there is and 8% unemployment rate, rebuild the school department with what funds we have. There is always an.overide option. Bill Burditt mentioned that schools are a priority and they will have $650K less than last year. Fred VanMa.gness mentioned that we have to decide to do with less. Point of fundemental change. Bill Burditt reminded everyone of the all boards meeting on 12/10. The 60/40 issue came up again and all present made various comments as to eliminating term and use. A working target of $650K was set for the SC for their budget delibera- tions. Bill Burditt presented the final bill from Pete Marwick for the audit. Motion was made for approval of same in the amount of $10,000 by Gerry MacDonald, seconded by Fred VanMagness. Vote 8-0-0. Motion to adjourn, seconded and passed.
