Minutes of 9 February 1993
Meeting of the Reading FILnance Committee for 9 February
1993 was called to order by Chairman Richard Coco at 9;40 PM
in the employee's lounge of Reading Town Hall following the
vonclusi^n of a joint meeting between the R'TNCOM. Board of
~electrnen and School Committee held earlier that same
evening.
Members in attendance were; Bill Murphy. Steve Blewitt.
Liz Greene. Bill Albro, Jim Keigley. Jerry MacDonald and
Dick Coco,
Deliberations centered on how the FINCOM would go about
reviewing the FY 1994 town budget. At the joint meeting
earlier in the evening the discussions had centered on the
possibility of a 2 1,,12 override ballot question and how the
question might be structured,
The Chairman stated that FINCOM's charter is to review
the proposed Town budget and make recommendations of a
balance budget to Town meeting for its consideration and
vote, Looting to the future, if an override was successful
FINCOM would need to return to the budget review process and
vote recommendations on any amended budget
Various members contributed their inputs to the
discussion.
Following these discussions, Bill Murphy made a motion.
seconded by Jerry MacDonald, that FIN+O14 review and vote
only a bottom line budget rather than review each line item.
The vote on the motion failed 3-4-0,
Members also requested that the Town Manager provide
year-to-date (IA`TD) expenditures for each budget line item
for FINCX)M usage during our up-coming deliberations.
On a motion by Bill Murphy, seconded by Bill Albro the
committee unanimously voted to adjourn at 14;05 FM.
