The meeting was convened at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Reading Memorial High School, 62
Oakland Road at 7:00 p.m. Present were Chairman Carol Grimm, Vice Chairman Richard
McDonald, Robert LeLacheur, Paul Kurker, Charles Robinson, Catherine Martin, James Francis,
Neil Cohen, Public Works Director Ted McIntire and Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner.
On motion by Martin seconded by LeLacheur, the Finance Committee voted to reconsider
sections N and O of the FY2001 budget -Water and Sewer, by a vote of 8-0-0. The Town
Manager and the Public Works Director explained that the Board of Selectmen was interested in
increasing the water and sewer billing to six times per year and the costs associated with that.
The cost would be offset by use of water reserves and sewer reserves. Also, in the Sewer budget
there is a reduction because of the revised MWRA estimates.
On motion by Martin seconded by LeLacheur, the Finance Committee voted on a motion to
approve lines N1 through N4 in the amount of $2,569,387.00 with the use of the reserve in the
amount of $25,980.00. The vote on the motion was 0-8-0 and the motion was not approved.
On motion by Martin seconded by LeLacheur, the Finance Committee voted to approve a budget
for the Sewer Division lines 01 through 04 in the amount of $3,640,701.00 with $36,076 from
the sewer reserve, the Finance Committee voted 0-8-0 and the motion was not approved.
On motion by Cohen seconded by McDonald, the Finance Committee voted to approve the
MWRA expense for the sewer operation in the amount of $2,732,825.00. The motion was
approved by a vote of 8-0-0.
On motion by Grimm seconded by Kurker, the Finance Committee voted to adjourn at 7:25 p.m.
by a vote of 8-0-0.
