3/20/84
Members Present: M. O'Brien, P. Landers, J. Russell and M. Ziegler.
Mr. Russell opened the meeting by calling for a re-organization of the Board. Mr.
Landers nominated Maureen O'Brien for Chairman, it was seconded by Mrs. Ziegler and
so voted. Mrs. O'Brien then took charge of the meeting. Mr. Russell nominated Mr.
Dustin as Vice-Chairman, it was seconded by Mr. Landers and was so voted. Mr.
Russell then nominated Mr. Landers as Secretary and it was so voted. It should be
noted that Mr. Dustin who was away on business had left his proxy votes which
corresponded with the nominations made thus each vote was a unanimous vote of the
Board.
The Board then met with Charles Stamatis, the Building Inspector to discuss the
possibility of his using a part-time clerk or a clerk that could be shared with
another department. Mr. Stamatis stated that he didn't mind sharing someone if
his department and the other department the clerk came from would physically share
the same space. He also stated there was rather an intense training period for the
clerk at the beginning. After further discussion it was suggested that perhaps
something could be worked out with the Planning Board and that the two offices were
more or less computable in type of work. Mrs. O'Brien state she would talk to Ken
Messina of the Planning Board about this.
Mrs. O'Brien then passed out assignments to the Board in which each Selectmen would
act as a liaison with different departments. After a brief discussion she requested
the Executive Secretary to send these to the various departments involved.
The Board then discussed a letter from Chief Marchand in which he stated that the
traffic lights at Main and Washington Sts. needed repair and that the cost for this
would be about $10,000. After a discussion the Board voted to ask for a transfer
for the lights.
The Board also read a letter from D.P.W. which stated that Chapter 90 funds were
committed and would not be available for the Reading Square traffic lights. The
Board requested the Executive Secretary to find out if any funds might be left over
