January 17, 1983
Members Present: M. Rosenthal, J. Russell, M. O'Brien and P. Dustin.
The Board met with members of the Conservation Commission to sign final
papers on Batchelder Field Land Swap. Attorney Brad Latham represented
the land owners, Knudsen, Godfrey and Buck. After a brief discussion
Mr. Dustin moved that the Board of Selectmen accept the vote of the 1982
Annual Town Meeting to sell 3.2 acres of the Batchelder Field Property
of Town Owned Land on Franklin St. , in exchange for 29.9 acres of land
owned by Knudsen, Godfrey and Buck. The motion was so voted 4 - 0. The
Selectmen signed 3 copies with Town Clerk as witness.
The Board then met with Carl Vivace on his application for 3 taxi licenses
for Carl Taxi Cab Co. , 189 Green St. , Reading. After a brief discussion
Mr. Dustin moved to grant 3 cab licenses on the condition that each license
have the vehicle and registration number of the cab and that said licenses
would expire December 31, 1983. It was so voted.
The Board acknowledged a letter from the Mass. Executive Office of
Transportation and Construction traffic control devices at the intersection
of Routes 1-93 and 129.
The Board acknowledged a letter from the Town Accountant in which he stated
the Contributory Reitrement Board would like the use of the old data
processing room in the basement level if and when that operation ceases.
The Executive Secretary reminded the Board that the Court hearing on the
Spence Farm Christmas Tree case comes up January 26th (Wednesday) at
10:00 A.M. in Marlboro.
The Board, after another review of the Veterans Budget, asked the Executive
Secretary to check on the correct amounts for the Veterans aid portion.
Mrs. O'Brien discussed proposed changes in the zoning by-laws relating to
home businesses which the Board might consider for the Annual Town Meeting.
She reminded the Board the warrant closes February 14th.
The Board asked the Executive Secretary to set aside time on their January
31st meeting to discuss future use of the depot and to set up a meeting with
the Personnel Board.
