HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-01-10 Board of Selectmen Minutes Meeting Notes January 10, 1983 Members Present: M. Rosenthal, J. Russell, M. O'Brien, J. Price and P. Dustin. The Board met with citizens of Grove St. , the Police Chief, and Mr. Louanis and Ms. Wood from the B.P.W. to discuss traffic hazards on Grove St. , particularly on a curve at 132 Grove St. After a lengthy discussion Mr. Price moved that the B. P.W. errect a barricade in front of 132 Grove St. , to be done forthwith, that the Selectmen will defend its cost. Mr. Rosenthal amended the motion by adding that in addition to the errection of the barricade a study of the problem be done by a committee made up of the Police Safety Officer, Chief, representatives from the B.P.W. , and citizens from Grove St. (Botticelli, Tarpin and Smith) . Both the motion and amendment were so voted. Mr. Rosenthal asked the Chief to act as Chairperson. The Board then voted to sign a transfer in the amount of $70,994 for a transfer for the Fire Department. The Board approved a request from the Reading Art Association to hold a Spring Art Festival on the Common on July 4, 1983. The Board acknowledged a letter from the Contributory Retirement Board stating a change in the Chairman. The Board approved the renewal of a Common Victualler License for McDonald's Drive-In at 413 Main St. The Board requested that the Building Inspector take action on two open excavations at Chapel Hill and get information on number of elevators in Town and cost of inspections. The Board then took up the Selectmen's budget. After a lengthy discussion the Board made the following changes: Raised the overtime item from $1,000 to $1,300; decreased the travel from $1,000 to $750.00; raised office supplies from $1,800 to $2,050.
