At the annual town meeting in March heading citizens signified their approval and support of the reforesta- tion movement being advocated by private and civic organizations of Massachusetts, by voting $1500 for the purpose of starting a town forest, and the local committee on reforestation, which includes the fire chief, the tm warden slid the chairman of the planning board, was authorized to be- gin work at once. Ground has been cleared, fire lanes laid out, 20,000 trees purchased, and already, in response to invitations of the committee, various organizations have promised to send delegations to the "tree planting bee" to be staged on the 85-acre reserve on Arbor Day. Each group will be assigned to a sec- tion of the tract. The first group to volunteer was the Board of Selectmen. The Boy Scouts were invited to take part in the event and readily accepted. The Girl Scout ttoop, not yet completely organized, will support the project as its first civic activity. Those who have volun- teered Intend to bring along their tree-planting tools and spend the 6h- tire day setting out trees under the direction of expert foresters and nurserymen. A similar event took place here a few years ago when a few hundred citizens donned their working clothes and assisted with the construction of Memorial Park, the town's chief play- ground.
