HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-04-06 Board of Selectmen Minutes 1 a Board of Selectmen Meeting April 6, 1987 The Board of Selectmen convened in the Executive Offices , 6 Lowell St. , Reading, MA at 7: 30 P.M. Present were Chairman Rus- sell , Vice Chairman Nigro, Secretary Graham, Board Members Landers, Ziegler and Town Manager, Peter I . Hechenbleikner. Robert Lynch of 23 Buckskin Drive present. Mr. Lynch' s question to the Board of Selectmen was when will the road be completed? On a motion by Nigro and seconded by Landers the Board voted 4-0- 1 Ziegler abstaining to accept Buckskin Drive as an accepted street and the charging of betterments therfor. Chet and Jennifer Bejthch of 19 Clover Circle spoke in favor of approving the acceptance of Clover Circle, 8 residents were in favor, the rest made no response. On motion by Landers seconded by Nigro the Board unanimously recommended to acceptance of Clover Circle as an accepted street and the charging of better- ments therefor, 5-0. Robert Bossey and Lenny Pienta III were present from Eastway. On motion by Ziegler seconded by Landers the Board voted 4-0-1 with Nigro abstaining in favor of accepting Eastway as an ac- cepted street and charge betterments therefore. Edward DiPasquale of 20 Criterion Road was present. On motion by Nigro seconded by Landers the Board voted 5-0 to accept Criterion Road as an accepted street and the charging of betterments there- for. Thomas Fallon was granted an additional 20 days sick leave on a motion by Nigro and seconded by Landers 5-0. The Board made note of the ground breaking ceremony on April 25th for the DPW Facility. The recommended rent increases , for Pearl St. School was postponed until April 16th. Considerable discussion took place regarding the parking on Vine Street and Arlington Streets, by the commuters who use the Depot. On April 2 , 1987 Tony Fletcher , Director of Public Works and Peter Hechenbleikner, Town Manager met with representatives of the MBTA and their design consultant with regard to a number of issues at the Reading Depot. Attached to these minutes are a copy of the proposed plan. On a motion by Landers and seconded by Ziegler the Board unanim- ously approved a "no parking sign" on the left hand side of Gould Street from the corner of Haven Street past the Mass Bank for Savings. The Grant application for the Historic Preservation of Town Hall has been withdrawn on recommendation of the architect and the Town Manager. Members of the Historical Commission were present to discuss the BiCentennial celebration of the Constitution. Present were Vir- ginia Adams,Jean Martin, Nancy and Ted Smethurst, Martha Clarke, and Ed Palmer. Russ Graham is the liason. Warrant for the Special Town Meeting ( 4/23 ) was closed that night. On motion by Ziegler and seconded by Nigro the Board unanimously passed 5-0 on second reading "Policy - Leaves of Absences" . Adjourned: 10:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted: Secretary 2
