HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-08-16 Board of Selectmen Minutes r Board of Selectmen Meeting August 16, 1988 The Board of Selectmen and the Board of Assessors met jointly. Present were Chairman Nigro, Secretary Ziegler, Selectmen Rus- sell, Robert Nordstrand, Michael Sullivan, Chairman, Sebastian Tine, Appraiser, and William Locke. The meeting was called to order at 7:49 P.M. Discussion was cen- tered around whether to have a single or a split tax rate; the residential exemption and open space discount. Valuation this past year has increased by $18.3 million. The residential valuation increased $12 million and the commercial and industrial increased $6 million. Most of the $6 million is attributed to the Somerset Nursing Home. The Assessors recommended 2-1 for a split tax rate with 150% max- imum rate for CIP. Russell moved and Ziegler seconded to main- tain the residential factor as one. The vote was 3-0. The Assessors recommended 3-0 not to give an open space discount. Russell moved Ziegler seconded not to grant an open space dis- count. The vote was 3-0. The Assessors voted 3-0 not to recommend a residential discount. Ziegler moved Russell seconded not to grant a residential dis- count. The vote was 3-0. The Board of Assessors commended Mr. Tine for his excellent presentation.
