HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-01-31 Board of Selectmen Minutes MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING January 31, 1989 Members present: Chairman Nigro, Vice Chairman Graham, Secretary Ziegler, Selectman Russell. Under Liaison Reports, Vice Chairman Graham indicated that four members of the Board of Selectmen attended a luncheon at the library for recipients of the Employee Awards Program for 1988. The program is a success and it is nice to honor employees who do an exceptional job. . The Board of Selectmen reviewed the new programs and capital im- provements as presented by the Town Manager. The Board commented on the following: 1. Capital Equipment that is intended to reflect efficiencies needs to be justified. 2 . The Library should consider charging for the meeting room to offset some of the expenses, i.e. for replacing the kitchen. This could be done in a manner similar to that used by the School Committee. 3. The stairway connecting the Library parking lot to Deering Street may need to be improved. In addition, the pos- sibility of placing planter islands within the parking area was discussed. The Board of Selectmen supported the idea of starting on a sidewalk and curb replacement program. There was discussion on improved custodial services. The Board asked what the current staff levels of custodian are, and what the optimum would be. The Board indicated, with the possible exception of additional custodial staff, no new programs would be able to be funded this fiscal year. Due to an electrical power failure, the Board of Selectmen ad- journed its' meeting at 10:00 PM, on motion by Graham, seconded by Russell. Respectfully Submitted, Secretary Y, t✓ e i x t
