April 10, 1991
The Board of Selectmen met in joint session in the
Superintendent's Conference Room, Reading Memorial High School,
62 Oakland Road, Reading, MA. The . meeting was convened at 7: 30
p.m. Present were Chairman Eugene Nigro, Vice Chairman Dan
Ensminger, Secretary Sally Hoyt, Selectmen Russ Graham and George
Hines, School Committee Chairman Stan Nissen, School Committee
Vice Chairman Barbara Philbrick, School Committee members Matt
Cummings, Mary Williams, and Tim Twomey, Superintendent Robert
Munnelly, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner, the candidates and
other interested parties.
The combined committee consisting of the members of the Board of
Selectmen and the members of the School Committee met to inter-
view candidates to fill an unexpired term on the School Committee
beginning on April 23, 1991 and expiring at the completion of the
election in March 1992. Interviewed were Cliff Allen, Sue Cavic-
chi, Robin D'Antona, George Shannon, Greg Tocco, and Marie
Zenewicz.
On motion by Ensminger seconded by Philbrick all names were put
-- into nomination. On the first ballot the voting was as follows:
Cliff Allen - 0, Sue Cavicchi - 2 , Robin D'Antona - 4, George
Shannon - 4, Greg Tocco - 0, Marie Zenewicz - 0.
Following further discussion, a second ballot was held at which
Robin D'Antona received five votes and George Shannon received
five votes, all other candidates receiving no votes.
Following further discussion, Dan Ensminger moved that a unanim-
ous ballot be cast for George Shannon. That motion was not ap-
proved by vote of 9-1-0.
On a third and final ballot Robin D'Antona received two votes and
George Shannon received eight votes. George Shannon was elected
to a term on the School Committee beginning April 23 , 1991 and
expiring at the end of election in March 1992 .
At 10:00 p.m. the Board of Selectmen adjourned while the School
Committee continued their session.
