September 27, 1995
The meeting was convened at 7:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall at Reading Memorial High School, 62
Oakland Road, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman Sally Hoyt, Vice Chairman
George Hines, Secretary Camille Anthony, Selectmen Dan Ensminger and Bruce MacDonald,
Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner.
The Town Manager outlined the process to date in terms of renovation or construction of a new
police station. The purpose of this meeting is to focus on the site location so that Town Meeting
may be able to take action in November. If Town Meeting takes action to select a site at that
time, then the architect can be directed to proceed with the design so that a Spring 1996 Town
Meeting vote could be taken on approving funds for the project.
Max Ferrero made a presentation of the police station building site options. The focus was on
one of two viable sites - the current site with additional adjacent land, or the Oakland Road site
across from the Reading Memorial High School.
Following discussion, the Board of Selectmen directed that the Town Manager confirm whether
or not the owner of the property adjacent to the existing station is interested in selling and making
that property available. The Warrant will be drawn to have Articles for either site so that a
decision can be made prior to the convening of Town Meeting and Town Meeting can be focused
on the appropriate site.
On motion by Hines seconded by Ensminger the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Secretary
