HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-03-07 Board of Selectmen Executive Session Minutes Board of Selectmen Executive Session March 7, 2001 The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room, at the Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street, Reading Massachusetts. Present were Matthew Cummings, Camille Anthony, George Hines, School Committee members Susan Cavicchi, Pete Dahl, William Griset, Robin D'Antona, Timothy Twomey, and Superintendent Dr. Harutunian. 7:00 PM George Hines called the meeting to order. 7:02 PM On a motion by Matthew Cummings, seconded by Camille Anthony, the Board of Selectmen voted to go into executive session. The motion was approved by a vote of 3-0-0. Dr Harutunian thanked the Board of Selectmen for meeting with the School Committee to discuss the continued representation in the Sunset Rock law suit. T 10 PM Matthew Nestor arrived. Dr. Harutunian stated that on December 29, 2000 the School Committee hired the firm of Gatsby& Hannah to represent them in the Sunset Rock Case. This was during the time the Town of Reading was changing their counsel. The School Committee needed immediate representation and voted to hire Gatsby& Hannah. Dr. Harutunian stated they are winning this case in the courts, but not with DEP. DEP will submit a group of questions and then a list of conditions. The DEP suit needs to be handled quickly. Camille Anthony asked if they will be through with negotiations in two weeks? Dr. Harutunian stated they are trying to settle this ease. They have had communications with Atty. Favalovo asking him what his client is seeking. Atty. Favalovo stated he will submit a list of requests. Tim Twomey stated Mr. Moeller might question who he is dealing with if the counsel is changed. Matthew Cummings asked what the cost estimate is from Gatsby & Hannah to handle this case?Dr. Harutunian replied, since this case is on going, Gatsby& Hannah did not give a price, only a time line of one year. George Hines asked if this cost is taken out of the School Budget. Dr. Harutunian replied the cost is taken out of the School Department's Special Counsel budget. Board of Selectmen March 7, 2001 page 2 Matthew Nestor stated he would like to have Gatsby & Hannah continue to handle this case. They could revisit this decision in the future if necessary. Matthew Cummings, George Hines and Camille Anthony agreed_ 7:35 PM On a motion by Matthew Cummings, seconded by Camille Anthony, the Board of Selectmen voted to adjourn their meeting.
