HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-11-10 Board of Selectmen Minutes Board of Selectmen Meeting November 10,2003 The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. in the Reading Memorial High School Auditorium, 62 Oakland Road, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman George Hines, Vice Chairman Richard Schubert, Selectman Camille Anthony, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner and resident Jamie Maughan. Personnel and Appointments Conservation Commission — The Board interviewed Jamie Maughan for one position on the Conservation Commission. Mr. Maughan felt that he could meet the time commitment even though he does travel a lot for business. He was asked whether there was any time when compromise in environmental issues could be negotiated. He felt that there is a concept called net environmental benefit where anyone can look at major projects like the landfill, and perhaps derive benefit elsewhere that would provide a net environmental benefit. On motion by Anthony seconded by Schubert the Board of Selectmen voted to appoint Jamie Maughan to a position on the Conservation Commission for a term expiring June 30, 2006 by a vote of 3-0-0. On motion by Schubert seconded by Anthony, the Board of Selectmen voted to adjourn their meeting of November 10, 2003 at 7.15 p.m. by a vote of 3-0-0 Respectfully submitted, te Secretary { Board of Selectmen Meeting November 13, 2003 The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. in Room 207A at Reading Memorial High School, 62 Oakland Road, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman George Hines, Vice Chairman Richard Schubert, Secretary Gail Wood, Selectman Camille Anthony and Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner. On motion by Schubert seconded by Wood, the Board of Selectmen voted to go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussion of strategy with respect to litigation not to come back into Open Session was approved on a roll call vote with all four members voting in the affirmative. Respectfully submitted, Secretary Board of Selectmen Meeting Executive Session November 13, 2003 The Executive Session convened at 7:00 p.m. in Room 207A at Reading Memorial High School, 62 Oakland Road, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman George Hines, Vice Chairman Richard Schubert, Secretary Gail Wood, Selectman Camille Anthony and Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner. The Town Manager presented the proposed settlement of a worker's comp case involving Michael Grunzweig, a Municipal Light Department employee. The Municipal Light Board has approved the settlement. On motion by Anthony seconded by Wood, the Board of Selectmen approved the settlement in the worker's comb case of Michael Grunzweig in the amount of$40,000 on a roll call vote with all four members voting in the affirmative. Chairman George Hines brought the Board of Selectmen up-to-date on the discussions with 128 Sales re: the litigation. A meeting had tentatively been scheduled between the Town and 128 Sales. Because of a scheduling conflict, it was not able to take place oil Friday morning. The message from 128 Sales then was "if the Town doesn't have any new proposal from Dickinson, then it doesn't make any sense to meet." Chairman George Hines will try to get the material from Dickinson that was requested and then set up a meeting with 128 Sales around this issue. - Chairman George Hines and Vice Chairman Richard Schubert expressed a strong opinion that it was worth trying to get these issues settled. On motion by Wood seconded by Anthony, the Board of Selectmen voted to adjourn the Executive Session of November 13, 2003 at 7:20 p.m. on a roll call vote with all four members voting in the affirmative.
