Dear Ms. Anthony:
As a venture capital professional and start-up company mentor, I know that innovation is the key
to growth and success. As a Reading resident and active contributor to community development
(through involveni.ent with the Reading Public Library Foundation, yout)), sports programs, Town
Meeting and other forwns), I am writing today to support the expansion of technological,
innovation in the town through Verizon's video franchise application.
Verizon's new video service, as well as its, voice and Internet services, will use the most
advanced fiber-optic network in the country. This technological "backbone" is superior to other
technologies that are leveraged today to move data over networks, in terms of reliability and
performance. Other .Reading residents who might not share my knowledge of data networking
will absolutely appreciate the high service quality and reliability that can be delivered by Verizon
over this network and the economic benefits of having a viable competitive provider of video in
town.
The introduction of a new video provider will, in addition to enhancing competition, promote the
development of new products and services that will make exciting new applications much more
widely accessible. The ultimate winners will be all of the residents of Readii.ig and., potentially,
businesses and organizations of Reading as well,
1 hope you will support Verizon's video franchise request and keep Reading at the cutting edge
of technnological innovation,
Sincerely,
John Zezenski

Mark, Ed and Bill,
This morning we were informed that the "Walkers Brook Crossing - Landfill Redevelopment"
submission to ACEC/MA (American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts) was
selected as one of the winners of a state Engineering Excellence Award! We are now
eligible to participate in the ACEC National Engineering Excellence Award competition, and
we plan to do so. We understand that usually there are 5 or so winning projects on the
state level that are eligible for participation at the national level. This year there
were a comparatively large number of entries at the state level
(19 entries).
Mark and Ed, thank you for your support, and endorsement letter in support of the
submission! We'll let you know more details, and preparation for the national
competition, as plans develop! Thanks again!

video choice and will be able to take full advantage of Verizort's state-of-the-art fiber

I have worked in the IT field for the last 20 years and joined Verizon only .recently, so i
mainly look at this from a consumer perspective. As a town, we should be doing
everything we can to give our residents more options, since that will improve service and
control prices.
la addition, the introduction of anew video provider will help drive the development of
new products and services that will make exciting new applications much more widely
accessible. T believe that wider access will allow more residents to take advantage of the
new technology that the town has deployed in the new high school, Overall, this wi.l.l be

Dear Sirs/Madam,
I am writing to ask you to support Verizon's plan to provide cable TV service in
Reading.
Having been an unsatisfied Comeast/MediaOne/TimeWarner/AT&T cable TV
subscriber for many years, I am looking forward to the day when I have a choice in cable
TV providers.
I am not satisfied with the rates, programming, and quality of service Comeast
provides. But as of today, because of Comcast's monopoly position in Reading, there's
not much I can do about it, short of dropping my service. The only other choice I have is
to subscribe to a satellite network, which, as anyone who's tried it can attest, is not a
viable alternative, given that its level of service is directly proportional to weather
conditions.
We all understand the benefits that competition brings. For example, we can't
seem to have enough pharmacies in town. Healthy competition among businesses
invariably results in better products and services for consumers.
Just as I do with pharmacies, supermarkets, banks, oil companies, and now local
and long distance phone companies and wireless phone providers, I want to be able to
switch to another cable provider if I'm not happy with the current provider. Fortunately,
technological advancements allow us to be able to do so today.
/ill
It's only a matter of time before cable competition is offered ubiquitously
throughout Massachusetts. If we grant Verizon permission, Reading will be one of the
first communities in the state to be able to offer cable subscribers a bonafide choice. I
would like to see us take such a progressive step.
Sincerely,
Philip G. Santoro

Dear Sirs/Madam,
I understand that the Town of Reading is considering a request from Verizon to
provide cable TV service in our community. I support the idea.
For too long, local communities and its residents have had to endure the
monopolistic practices of one cable TV company. Those days are finally coming to and
end.
Competition among local companies for our business is healthy and when it
comes to cable TV service, it's long overdue. We should have a choice in cable
companies the same way we have a choice with other types of business. We should never
be beholden to any one company.
Competition for cable TV service should result in lower rates, more choice in
programming, and better customer service. I am sure I speak for many families in
Reading who welcome a choice of cable TV companies and the healthy competition it
would bring.
Sincerely,
jj
