Re: MMA Transition Report and Local Officials' Participation in Patrick-Murray Regional
Meetings
MMA report to incoming administration outlines partnership principles
Monday, December 04, 2006
MMA urges local officials to attend the Patrick-Murray Local Government Transition Workgroup
regional meetings to offer ideas and input to the new Governor and Lt. Governor and their
Administration.
Late last week, the MMA has delivered a special report to the transition committees for the incoming
administration, highlighting the core municipal priorities that the MMA and local leaders have
identified as essential to renew the state's communities and economy.
The report, "Our Communities and Our Commonwealth: Partners for Progress and Prosperity,"
identifies "10 Partnership Principles for a Stronger Commonwealth."
• "Our Communities and Our Commonwealth: Partners for Progress and Prosperity" (480K PDF)
The MMA also provided the members of the Patrick-Murray Transition Committee and 15 transition
workgroups with a copy of "Revenue Sharing and the Future of the Massachusetts Economy,"
authored by economists at the Center for Urban and Regional Policy at Northeastern University. The
report provides a detailed examination of the urgent need to reinvest in the cities and towns of the
Commonwealth.
• Report cites local aid as critical to state's economic health
"The MMA and local leaders across Massachusetts are eager to build a new era of deep and
meaningful partnership with state government, and are dedicated to collaborating with Governor-
elect Deval Patrick and Lt. Governor-elect Tim Murray to improve our economy and increase
opportunity and advancement for the cities, towns and residents of Massachusetts," said MMA
Executive Director Geoff Beckwith.
"Now is the time to establish a powerful partnership for progress, and we are excited by the
leadership that the new administration will bring to this vital effort," Beckwith added. "This is why
we enthusiastically offer our special transition report and 10 Partnership Principles to build a
stronger, more vibrant Commonwealth."

Subject: Re: Washington St. Parking .
I had a call from a Washington St. resident about the parking issue.
The neighborhood is very concerned about the recommendation of the task force. I
suggested that they need to be there tonight. They have a real problem with the leased
spaces standing empty. Can't say that I blame them!!
Pete, for tonight could you get a tally of what is rented, what is left, and what info we
have sent out to employers about the program?
Thanks,
Camille Anthony

Subject: Dec. 5th Meeting on Wash. St. Parking
Peter Since I'm unable to attend tonight's meeting (granddaughter's concert in NH), I wish to reiterate that the
recent parking problem on our street (I live between Woburn and Prescott) did not occur until the commuters were
displaced by the leased parking places which, if I understand correctly, are only under contract until the end of
this month. Many of these are empty on a daily basis (I personally counted 29 recently). This is so unfair
parking should be on a first-come/first-serve basis. "One-side only" parking does not solve the problem which the
town created it only makes the situation worse for the neighbors who bought our homes in a residential
neighborhood. Please readdress the leased spaces. Is this even legal for public parking to be leased to certain
people? I've made my concerns known to Ben. Thank you. Lois Bell
