HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-07-22 Board of Selectmen PacketC to Hechenbleikner, Peter 7, From: George Katsoufis [George.Katsoufis@verizon.net] Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2008 4:04 PM To: Town Manager Cc: Kowalski, Carol Subject: Parking demand and garage building feasibility study Peter, As a CPDC representative to it, I wanted to bring back from memory the third and sixth goal assigned by the BOS to the 2006-2007 Downtown Parking Task Force (PTF): - ...Evaluate alternatives... - Evaluate current and alternative parking plans..... In my humble opinion, the purpose of these goals has been to investigate means to curb parking demand, a noteworthy effort that was destined to collide (an actually did) with some committee members aligned (or better in tune) with this nation's fascination with solo auto trips. The PTF looked at several parameters including this last one. In fairness, the selection of a firm that belongs in the industry of primarily building garages to execute the parking feasibility RFP would be discouraging. It is my sincere hope that the selected firm will be fluent in zoning language, urban planning opportunities and suburban lifestyle trends, so that they can fulfill one of the recommendations of the PTF: "ascertain the appropriate types of parking regulations that should be in place based on existing uses [and] identify the consumer/customer demand and employee demand." Thank you, George Katsoufis, CPDC associate '.ICN-IN SHEET'OR..'THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING DATE: 711= 4A °-,:A Oe,.-? ; NAME r ADDRESS (Please print) tSG-Or° R- i O vka rco)'n P fI C4 10 I*e 52 2 /Hc) AQ
