Topics of Discussion:
Chair Eric Gaffen opened the meeting at 6:30 PM. Reorganization of Committee leadership
followed. Richard Hand was nominated and unanimously elected to Chair. Robert Weiden was
nominated and unanimously elected to Vice Chair.
June minutes were not approved, tabled until September meeting.
The were no public comments.
The RUSC organization petitioned for permission to use temporary lighting at the Coolidge
Middle School for the Fall 2025 soccer season. The request was unanimously approved with the
stipulation that solar lighting be used. If solar lighting was not available, the Recreation
Administrator would notify the Board.
The Board was updated on the Town's Master Plan Committee. To be clear, this is a Town
Master Plan and not limited to parks and recreation. The request was made for a member of
the Recreation Committee to sit on this committee. Associate member, Giuseppe Fodera,
expressed interest in serving but the question was whether a full member of the Recreation
Committee is required. The Recreation Administrator will get clarification.

The Birch Meadow Phase II Improvement Plan was discussed with updates provided. The
basketball, pickleball, and playground areas have been demolished, and infrastructure work has
begun.
RECAL and Pickleball updates were provided.
Staff updates were provided for the summer programs and the upcoming fall programs.
Other Matters: Discussion of the sudden passing of Recreation member Michael Coltman and
his memorial service planned for Memorial Park. The Committee approved the permit.
The meeting concluded at 7:12 PM.
