HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-10-15 Town Forest Committee MinutesTown of Reading Meeting Minutes Board - Committee - Commission - Council: Town Forest Committee Date: 2024-10-15 Time: 7:00 PM Building: Reading Town Hall Location: Berger Room Address: 16 Lowell Street Purpose: Town Forest Management Session: Attendees: Members - Present: Jeff Lamson, Bill Sullivan, Nancy Docktor Members - Not Present: Tim Kirwan, Bill Hughes, Christine Lusk Others Present: Chuck Tirone (remote) and Walter Talbot (remote), Conservation Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Nancy Docktor Topics of Discussion: Meeting was held in-person and by video conference • Motion to make Nancy Docktor a voting member for the 10/15/24 meeting to have quorum was voted unanimously in favor. • Land Use Summitt was moved to January 2025 • Discussed B. Sullivan's November Town Meeting presentation for the animal control Bylaw changes and for funding for dead trees and invasive plant control. Support from Conversation Commission will be requested at. B. Sullivan will attend the 10/23/24 Conservation Commission meeting to request Conservation approval for the next phase of dead tree removal. • Dog waste signs to be installed (5 signs) at Wood End, Lynn Woods, compost area, lot 5, and at kiosk. • Discussed the Lot 5 entrance kiosk. DPW will install it. • Discussed storage of the recently purchased tools and supplies for invasive plant removal in Trails Committee shed for use by all both groups. • Thanks to DPW for outstanding work on creating stairs at Lot 5. Stairs are wide and greatly improves access to the TF. • Discussed plan for 10/22/24 New Resident Open House. Goals are informational and recruitment. New members are still needed. • C. Tirone noted that Dave Williams is seeing more birds in areas where dead trees have been removed and the understory is filling in. He also shared information on upcoming work on Strout Ave and the plan to have storage units placed on Water Dept property to store new trash/recycle bins and later for other needs. • Committee voted unanimously to approve the minutes for the 9/17/24 meeting. • Next meeting was scheduled for 11/25/24.
