PROCLAMATION
EMS WEEK
Whereas, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and Whereas, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours
a day, seven days a week; and
Whereas, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience
sudden illness or injury; and
Whereas, emergency medical services has grown to fill a gap by providing important, out of hospital care, including
preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and
Whereas, the emergency medical services system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians,
paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital
nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital
medical care providers; and
Whereas, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours
of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by
designating the Emergency Medical Services Week; now
Now, therefore, we, The Select Board of the Town of Reading, Massachusetts do hereby proclaim May 19 – 25, 2024 as
Emergency Medical Services Week.
Reading Select Board A Resolution for Pride Month Whereas, the Reading Select Board believes in the inherent dignity of everyone who helps to form our community; Whereas, Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall uprising of June 1969 and elevates the pursuit of equal justice and opportunity for LGBTQ+ Americans; and Whereas, the Reading Select Board values diversity, equity, and inclusion, is committed to equal rights and opportunities for Reading’s LGBTQ+ residents, and is dedicated to fostering the acceptance of all members of the Reading community; and Whereas, the Reading Select Board recognizes the important contributions of its LGBTQ+ residents to the Town’s history, culture, economy, and civic life; and Whereas, it is imperative that residents of all sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions feel valued, safe, empowered, and supported by their peers, educators, and community leaders; and Whereas, we affirm our support for our LGBTQ+ residents and stand with them to protect their civil rights and ability to live openly without fear. Now, therefore, be it resolved, that we, the Reading Select Board, do hereby resolve that June 2024 be recognized as Pride Month in the Town of Reading and urge members of the Reading community to recognize the contributions made by members of the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of this month;

x Retirement Board
I am a long-time, pension-vested Town of Reading employee. As a Department Head, I have experience with both financial and personnel management.
I have lived in Reading for 26 years and worked for the Town of Reading in non-exempt, exempt, part-time,and full-time positions.I also think ten years of
experience as a legal research librarian will come in handy in understanding related laws and regulations.
I am very interested in continuing to serve my colleagues - past, present and future - and working to keep the Reading pension system healthy. I also
enjoy learning, even completing a graduate-level certificate while working full-time, and look forward to learning more about the retirement system
in Reading and in the larger conext of the State/Federal governments.
