MINUTES OF THE READING RETIREMENT BOARD MEETING
EXECUTIVE SESSION
April 26, 2016 at 5:00 P.M.
Present at this executive session are the following individuals:
Joseph R. Veno, Chairman
Thomas A. Clough
Nancy J. Heffernan
Louis E. deBrigard, Jr.
Michael Sacco, attorney for the Reading Retirement Board
Laura DeMone, member of the Reading Retirement System
Roberta Maillett, support for Laura Demone
Teresa Zambella, support for Laura Demone
Evelyn Holt, witness
The hearing was recorded and is considered to be a part of the minutes.
The records used and reviewed for this hearing were Ms. DeMone's Member's Application for
Disability Retirement, the Physician's Statement, the Employer's Statement and the medical records
obtained relating to her disability claim.
Laura DeMone appeared and testified as to the reason she is seeking an accidental disability retirement.
Specifically, that she believes she has been bullied, harassed and verbally abused by a supervisor, and
her employer did not adequately respond to her when she raised the allegations of mistreatment to them.
Ms. DeMone gave some examples of what she considered to be bullying, harassment and verbal abuse,
and discussed the effects it had on her physical and emotional well-being.
Evelyn Hoyt, testified to some of the issues she either witnessed or heard between Ms. DeMone and her
supervisor.
Attorney Sacco made the recommendation to table the application for disability to enable to the Board to
digest the information and allow Attorney Sacco to put together some thoughts for the Board.
