Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Rochelle Rubino
Topics of Discussion:
1. Motion to approve minutes. Vote to approve minutes. Unanimous. The school
improvement plan has been shared with the Team Leaders. It will be discussed at the
Leadership Team meeting tomorrow.
2. Review grading policies. The policies were last reviewed in 2016. We need to consider
more input. In considering the effort categories, there is no corresponding rubric for
outstanding etc. Some ideas include adding other categories "cooperative", `needs to
limit distractions", to be more descriptive in the effort and comment portions of the grade.
Currently, teachers can add comments on "effort" and "conduct". Perhaps, there is a
need for a rubric and add more meaningful communication from the teacher.
Conferences at middle school? The current practice uses the team model which allows
for student conferences with families (teachers can request them and or parents can
request them). It might be beneficial to have a scheduled day or days for parents and
teachers to have that planned ahead. This might help a child that might be on the cusp.
Perhaps an email to parents on work habits from Advisory. The Principal will bring rubric
ideas to the next meeting. She will solicit input on middle school conferences (survey)
and academic progress info. Is there a way to use the parent portal to improve a parent's
understanding of their child's progress? Consider a way to address competencies, skills
and or other areas to tell us more about the student. This could be daunting for teachers
that teach a large number of students (80 plus - 500 students). We need to look at
balancing the load of any new criteria and also the timing of when to share that info
(every other marking period or progress report).
3. How to understand by class and grade level for the rubrics.
4. What do the grades actually mean?
5. Looking at effort and conduct categories. SEL Competencies?
