The meeting was held at Mattera Cabin and brought to order at 6:32 pm
Topics of Discussion:
Approve Minutes — unanimous
1) Ipswich River Day 9/23 report — Dave Williams led a walk. Fewer people due to rain
2) Library -Open -House 10/3/2023 Report — lots of new neighbors attended. The map was
popular

3) Table Event display decision— Discussion of a Trails Committee Pop Up Canopy and a
table skirt with a trails committee sign. Voted unanimously to allow Kathy and Tim to
select and purchase these.
4) Bare Meadow Boardwalk 10.14 — There was discussion of replacing the whole
boardwalk but we decided that it can be repaired. Will, Tom, Dave, Tim will work on it
10/14. Chuck will order materials to be shipped to the Mattera Lower driveway.
5) Review Priority List — Kathy discussed Flooding in the Mattera garage, which is currently
at bay. Working on a boardwalk list. Working on having extra stock for repairs. A scout
has work pending and we agreed to promote his go fund me on facebook. Kathy
discussed the trail adopter program.
6) Conservation Update
Essex environmental is doing invasive work this week in the Town Forest. 2 week project.
There will be buckthorn piles left behind.
The Meadow will not be mowed this year. Only the paths. Will be mowed every two years.
Trails will be done three times a year.
7) Mass Trails grant
We missed the deadline for this year but we may submit for an accessible trail by Wood End
8) Trails cleanup day.
Kathy proposed trails cleanup days twice a year.
9) Blazing Update — 1/3 done with new blazes. Bare meadow and Pinevale are done and
there are two done in the town forest.
Will will build 3 small kiosks: one at the intersection of the blue and white trails in Bare
Meadow, and another on Franklin st next to the cemetery, and behind the poop bags by the
Old Council Ring.
10)Other items not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of the meeting
Karen Gately Herrick spoke about the Community Preservation Act. For conservation and
open space, housing, parks, historic renovations. Folks are trying to get it on the November
2024 ballot
Some matching funds.
Chuck reported on how it worked in Arlington. Funds are earmarked by category. Finds can't
be used for maintenance
