Town of Reading a nj Meeting Minutes 323 NOY 27 PN 4: 11 Board - Committee - Commission - Council: Date: September 27 2023 Time: 7 p.m. Building: N/A Location: Address: N/A Purpose: Bi -monthly meeting Attendees: Members - Present: Raymond Porter Gena Pilyaysky Carolyn Joynson Travins Estes Members - Not Present: Mark Logsdon Others Present: Marc Ortins, Susan Bowe, Corrin Wolf Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Genady Pilyaysky Meeting Called To Order: 7:04 pm - Adjourned: 8:32 Topics of Discussion: Virtual - Zoom Ray discussed net zero plan • Ray shared brochure from the Town, which is looking for volunteers • Emphasis on the committee members to not saturate the volunteer pool, giving other residents ability to apply and participate o Only a few members of RCAC will apply Ray discussed distributing different tasks to different members and interested non-members • Would allow people to follow the topics they are most interested in • Killam School Building Committee: Gena and Ray will lead the charge on the Killam School building committee, attend the meetings to understand the process/plan/general information, and report back to the committee o Carolyn is open to attending meetings too o Ray will reach out to the Select Board Liaison(Karen H.) to determine it RCAC can contribute in other ways • MBTA communities: Gena, Caroyln, Corrin will attend the meetings and report back to RCAC MBTA time conflicts with RCAC meetings Likely to shift RCAC meetings to compensate for the overlap in meeting times Looking to rill additional memberpositions in RCAC with volunteers • Susan, Marc, and Corrin (in -attendance) were encouraged to apply Friends and Family day at the Reading Public Library Page I 1 � Orq�o Town of Reading rl Meeting Minutes Iry(OP • To be attended by Gena, Susan, and Corrin • RCAC will have a table with informational & educational material (e.g., heat pumps), reusing posters from the past o Gena to pick up the material from Ray • Susan, representing the Reading Compost (resident group) will be sharing the table with RCAC Susan and Gena shared some info on Black Earth Compost • Susan and Gena met with BEC, the town (Fidel, others) and Select Board Liaison (Karen H.) to learn more about BEC • Takeaway 1: BEC is capable of supporting the entire town • Takeaway 2: With rising cost of trash removal, BEC is becoming comparable in price to the current solid waste removal model • Takeaway 3: BEC should present to the Select Board Susan suggested screening environmentally themed movies at the Library P.9 12
