Minutes:
Update:
We finished our work from Urban Improv for Life with the school, but we are working on
rescheduling for the community. May 23 or 25, 2023 will likely be the date.
Most staff and students said that they would like to have Ulf _ return. We will plan to continue to
partner with Ulf _ as part of our SEL program. We recently had our Internet Safety Presentation
by Project Safe Childhood of the Department of Justice. The topics were difficult to hear, but
necessary to hear. Zoom sessions may also be available for parents. MCAS testing is in
process. Make up testing for ELA will be after vacation. Math MCAS will start in May.
Information email on course selection will go out this week. Course selection will be available
through the Portal. Assistant principal search committee is being formed. Input from students
has been requested. Reaching out to Boston resident families for input or to join the committee
Interviews will be help 4/27 and 4/28.
Feedback for SIP Draft:
Mrs. Rubino:
- I would like to differentiate Team Leaders and members of the Instructional Leadership Team
(ILT). The ILT will have a focus on instructional leadership.
- Programming for new to Reading/New to Parker students over the summer to introduce them
to Parker. This would be for all new families and students, both Reading and Boston.
- How can we partner with high school students to provide a Big Sibling for support to students.
- Enrichment and elective offering - should we have some alignment with the innovation
pathways at the high school. Also, should we have more alignment with Coolidge in our elective
Page I 1
and enrichment classes. Should these classes be connected to technology standards? Looking
to bring robotics to the middle school as well.
Mr. Nichols:
- Agrees with the approach of a separate ILT.
- Continue the work to integrate the Boston and Reading families and students as a METCO
district.
- Entrepreneurial skills, connected to a social good, could be a good elective.
- Maybe we could bring in community members and resources to expand our electives.
Mrs. Thernault:
- Update the document to reflect the change to a social worker in the METCO program.
- Rescheduling - I would love to see a trimester schedule.
