86 West Street
Mr. Ralph Preston (RP) presented his Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for his
property at 86 West Street. RP was seeking to replace the sills and siding on a portion of his
house.
RP provided a brief overview of his proposal:
Sills will be replaced on approximately 1/4 of the home with pressure treated
lumber or oak. Corresponding siding would be replaced with in kind material.
Brad Green Colonial Restoration would be performing the work.
VA asked about downspouts and gutters, and pointed out that brick portions of the house that
are close to the soil run an increased risk of water damage.
EB spoke about the history of the house and asked some questions regarding the structural
integrity of the interior of the house. RP described the supports under the kitchen and the
examination of some potential rot in the middle of the house.
VA asked about clapboards and RP stated that all clapboards would be replaced in kind with
pressure treated wood.
PD made a motion to approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for the replacement of the sills
and siding at 86 West Street. The motion was seconded by EB and approved with a 4-0-0
vote. PD made a motion to waive a Public Hearing. The motion was seconded by CM and
approved with a 4-0-0 vote.

The Commission briefly discussed developments with the 186 Summer Avenue property.
