Topics of Discussion:
The meeting was called to order at 4:03PM.
Members of the Screening Committee were sworn in by Reading Town Clerk, Laura Gemme. Ms.
Gemme left the meeting after the oath of office was administered.
School Committee Chair Chuck Robinson thanked the Screening Committee members for their service
and commitment He reviewed the Charge from the School Committee. This included that the School
Committee would like the Screening Committee to send 3 to 5 finalists to the School Committee. Any
internal candidates will be interviewed. In addition, any inquiries from the media should be directed to
Mr. Robinson. Mr. Robinson left the meeting after his comments.
After introductions were made, the Committee selected a Chair.
A motion was made and seconded to elect Teresa Arent as Chair of the Preliminary Screening
Committee.
VOTED: Unanimously in favor by roll call vote.
The roles and responsibilities of the Committee were reviewed by Mrs. Presser, including
selecting and interviewing semi-finalists for the position according to the Selection Criteria set
by the School Committee, and recommending the requested number of finalists to the School
Committee.

The procedures for getting the application materials to the Screening Committee were
reviewed. The application materials will be sent via a Dropbox link when they are available.
Dorothy Presser and Gail Dowd will coordinate getting paper packets to any members who
wish to receive them. Committee members will review the materials, and discuss and finalize
the selection of semi-finalists at the January 1 I meeting.
Any motions made by the Committee will require a simple majority vote to pass.
Members were also briefed on the applicable laws that guide their work, including the Open
Meeting Law and the importance of the confidentiality of Executive Session. The Conflict of
Interest law was also reviewed.
Members were asked to consider questions to ask of the candidates and be prepared to discuss
question topics for the screening interviews at the next meeting.
Mr. Jay McGilvary, Screening Committee member, joined the meeting at 4:20.
At approximately 4:30, the meeting briefly recessed. Mr. Clark did not rejoin the meeting as he
was unable to reconnect to the meeting link after the recess. Mr. LaLacheur rejoined at 5:20.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 5:25PM.
