VACI 2023 MAR -8 PM 3: 1; Location: Berger Room David Zeek, Chair; Ray Porter, Secretary; Jeff Everson, Member; Celeste Kracke, Member; Walt Talbot, Associate Member; Travis Estes, Associate Member; Members - Not Present: Genady Pilyaysky, Member; Others Present: Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Ray Porter Topics of Discussion: Meeting was held via a Zoom Conference Call Welcome to Members and Guests Review minutes, vote on acceptance Bike Recycling Event Summary • Over 100 bikes were received • Over 70 bikes were returned to new homes • About 2 dozen were taken to "Bikes Not Bombs" for reuse • About a dozen were taken for donations to other homes Town Forest Appreciation Day Summary • Table was setup with posters promoting alternative lawns • Other items on the table were Community Garden sign-up and Covid Test Kits • Child activity included making soil, filling a cup and putting a seed into the soil • Travis, Genady and Reading DPW provide soil mixture components Friends and Family Day • Feature heat pump • Travis has working unit that can be plugged in • Travis to look into charts or graphs that can be printed for display • Ray thinking up child engagement activity • Dave to prepare handout in support of Sustainability Manager Page 1 1 o.m Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes Polystyrene Containers Draft Bylaw (Dave Zeek) • Review draft text for polystyrene ban • Purpose statement reviewed and edited • Reviewed definitions related to "Food Establishments" • Discussion related to polystyrene items, plastic Items and recyclable/compostable items • Discussion of regulations to focus on prohibiting use of polystyrene than single use items, utensils and condiments • Suggestion to propose 2 bylaws such that one or both approaches may be accepted • Dave to create 2 bylaws, one on polystyrene and one on single use items Coolidge Middle School Social Studies - Climate Actions (Rebecca Mandell) • Dave, Travis and Ray to review the projects Calendar of Coming Events • June 11 - Friends & Family Day Next meeting 5/25/2022 at 7:00 pm Page 1 2 mnasa
