Board -Committee -Commission -Council: 2023 MAR -8 PM 3: 11 Climate Advisory Committee Date: 2022-03-23 Time: 7:00 PM Building: Reading Town Hall Location: Berger Room Address: 16 Lowell Street Purpose: Bi -monthly meeting Attendees: Members - Present: David Zeek, Chair; Ray Porter, Secretary; Jeff Everson, Member; Celeste Kracke, Member; Genady Pilyaysky, Member; Walt Talbot, Associate Member; Travis Estes, Associate Member; Members - Not Present: Others Present: Lori Weir, Resident Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Ray Porter Topics of Discussion: Meeting was held via a Zoom Conference Call Welcome to Members and Guests Review minutes, vote on acceptance Meeting minutes for 3/9/2022 approved as amended Polystyrene Containers and Single use Plastic (Lori Weir) • Propose a by-law for limiting plastics in the form Wakefield passed • Lori to check with Wakefield on how they arrived at their by-law • MassGreen.org has information on banning polystyrene containers and automatic distribution of single use plastic utensils • Any mechanism to incentivize reusable items instead of banning items • Possible work with a local restaurant to pilot a program Outreach Activities — subcommittee report • Presentation of discussion had by the subcommittee • Town Forest Day is May 1 • Seed swap at the Community Garden • Soil conservation topic in concert with ConCom (Ray, Celeste and Walt) • Joe Carnahan of ConCom contact • Draft approach by April 13 • RMLD Energy Fair, rebates • Focus on environmental actions • Need an approach to be more expansive in our outreach Page I 1 a.e Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes School Program Green Team • Best to approach the schools from administrative side • Thegreenteam.org is the website for the group • Walt to follow-up with teacher who contacted Dave Community Climate Resilience • Look at Barr Foundation document • Possible measurement method for CAC Community Garden Update • March 24 - Application complete, informational session (7:30 - 8:00) • March 25 - Applications submissions open (Conservation Commission webpage) • April 8 - Notice to gardeners • Early May - Open Community Garden to the gardeners Next meeting 4/13/2022 at 7:00 pm Page 12
