Voting for RCAC Leadership Roles • Dave Zeek was nominated and voted in as Chair of the RCAC • Ray Porter was nominated and voted in as Vice Chair and Secretary of RCAC EV Charging Stations / Electrification • Colleen reported that the grant for EV chargers was approved • Dave talked with REI and Planet Fitness about EV charges. • REI was interested in having EV chargers, Planet Fitness was not. • Recommend talking with property owners about having EV chargers • Volta, an EV charger provider, has worked with RMLD and may be interested Environmental Metrics for Sustainable Development • Dave learned Assessor from the excise tax database that there were 64 registered EV plates in Reading • Dave asked about adding a question on fuel use to the annual Town survey • Need to keep questions focused to minimize non -responses • Use of data for tracking trends in energy use and communicate incentives for energy upgrades • Number of heat pumps in Reading can be tracked by permits for electrical meters and MassSave Rebates Page 1 1 m 3m 3 Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes Community Garden Grant • The earmark funding came through and supported by Karen of the Select Board • A planning meeting will be held next Tuesday • A design review meeting is planned for August • Additional data is needed before meeting with the Town Staff • Four sites are included in the assessment Including the Matterra site • Comparing sites against criteria and needs • Current "modelling" of site needs Is based on Wakefield's garden • Recommend that an survey be conducted through Social Media to define critical priorities Energy Efficiency Julie will be coming to plan a public meeting on September 22 Response to the Article Jeff had in the Chronicle • Dave will draft a letter to the editor in support a Town supported Energy Sustainabilty Director • Jeff to support and review the letter. • Energy Efficiency director Is a key element to qualify as Green Community Student Interns from HS Environmental Club • Travis has not spoken with Club recently • Public Service Message (2 - 3 min segments) • Data Collection (Environmental Metrics) • Survey for Farmers' Market • Leon and Sedona are interested in working with the club • Wait for feedback from students to gauge their interest. • RPL does not have interns, but they do use student as "Tech Guides" and to shelve stuff. • Online content can be posted on YouTube • Project Idea: Plastic collection drive to earn a recycled plastic bench Postings Celebration of Reading Town Forest o Sept 25 (8:00 to 12:00) RMLD Events o Public Power Open House o Heat Pump Webinar - Case Studies Next meeting 7/28/2021 at 7:00 pm via Zoom Page 1 2
