Board -Committee -Commission -Council: 2023 MAR -8 PM 3: Og Climate Advisory Committee Date: 2021-12-22 Time: 7:00 PM Building: Reading Town Hall Location: Berger Room Address: 16 Lowell Street Purpose: Bi -monthly meeting Attendees: Members - Present: David Zeek, Chair; Ray Porter, Secretary; Jeff Everson, Member; Genady Pilyaysky, Member; Walt Talbot, Associate Member; Travis Estes, Associate Member; Members - Not Present: Celeste Kracke, Member Others Present: Usha , North Reading Recycling Committee Bob Holmes, Reading Times Choronicle Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Ray Porter Topics of Discussion: Meeting was held via a Zoom Conference Call Welcome to Members and Guests Review minutes, vote on acceptance Census Survey Approved by Select Board • There are no scanners in the Town departments or RMLD that could be used to read the survey form • Genady can create a program to tabulate the results if the forms can be scanned in the same direction • Census to go out at the beginning of the year. Support for Sustainability Director (Select Board Meeting, Jan 4) • Draft language for position has been distributed • Goal is to reserve money in the Town budget for Sustainability Director • Reviewed slides prepared by David • Roles and responsibilities of the Natick Sustainability Director • Town expenses include staff cost and capital expenses • Melrose Grants and incentive funds received through 2021 • Cost savings as presented by Neal Duffy Northeast Regional Coordinator for Green Communities (UMass Boston, 2017) • List of towns with Sustainability Directors and salaries offered • Chelsea has a Sustainability Manager and Planner. Page 1 1 Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes Community Garden Update • Mattera Cabin on the terraced area near the parking lot • Meetings with neighbors planned • Need to present to the Conservation Commission Looking for sourcing garden materials Educational opportunities at Mattera cabin for other gardening issues. MILD Topics for next meeting • Implementation of heat pumps Opportunities for renewable energy • Electrification options In town. Brain Storming for future events Emergency response plans for adverse climate change • Plan ahead for community events where we can engage the community • Support the ways to reduce emissions (traffic lights that allow for opportunity to turn off cars) Improve Indoor health through use of induction stoves rather than gas stoves • Community feedback on items important to them Next meeting 1/12/2022 at 7:00 pm Page 1 2 ..o.•.
