Board - Committee - commission - council: 2023 MAR -8 PM 3:06 Climate Advisory Committee Date: 2019-08-28 Time: 7:00 PM Building: Reading Town Hall Location: Lower Level Conference Room Address: 16 Lowell Street Purpose: BI -monthly meeting Attendees: Members - Present: David Zeek, chair; Ray Porter, secretary; Celeste Kracke, member; Denise McCarthy, associate member; Patty Cameron RMLD, member; Jeff Everson;member; Peter MacGown, Associate member; Gina Snyder, Associate member Members - Not Present: Others Present: Karen Gately Harrick, FINCOM Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Ray Porter Topics of Discussion: Welcome to Members and Guests Review minutes, vote on acceptance Minutes from August 14, 2019 accepted as amended Ongoing Business: Road Diet for Main Street, Route 28 (Public Meeting DOT and Town Engineer at Library) • Road surfacing on Main Street is planned for Fall 2019/ Spring 2020 • Road diet assessments are not apparent on the DOT website. • There are No planned changes to lanes and surfacing schedule. Independent Survey of NG Leaks in Reading • Cost of survey is about $35,000 • Warrant Article initiated by Select Board. Vote by the Select Board approved Warrant Article. • Questions about testing methods and vendors to be used. • identify responses to potential objections to the expenditure. • Resolution by the RCAC was submitted to the Select Board. Presentation to the Select Board (Meeting September 24) • Participation optional, but welcomed by Dave. • Dave to review current presentation for relevance now. • Potential RCAC projects for coming year. Page I 1 Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes Street Fair September 8, 2019 (Noon to 5:00) • Agreed to share a table with the UUC Green Sanctuary • Scheduled people to support/attend the booth. • Use existing handouts. • Promote contacting Town meeting members, prepare handout. Creation of a Joint Sustainability Group • Vanessa Alvarado wants to meet with us on Sept. 11. • Topics for the discussion • EV charging station discussion did not advance. • Investigate the Energy Use within the Town Buildings. • MAPC website has figures for Reading and demographic information to identify sensitive groups. • Look at updated IPCC report and National Climate Assessment for climate risks. • Hazard Mitigation plan for Reading update in 2017 Review Reports from Other Towns/Cities for Suggestions for Reading • Jeff to provide a summary of relevant actions based on Newton report • Type of study to do a similar report was $30 to $40K. • MVP would provide a grant to do the study. • Reading Planning Department did not get the resources to support to submit a proposal. • Braintree, Brookline and Woburn also did reports from which we can reference. • Green Sanctuary having Presentation a the Library September 25 • Decided to not cancel meeting to attend the presentation.
