Topics of Discussion:
1. Approve minutes from last meeting
2. SIP approved by School Committee
a. Quick update at to where we currently are on our SIP
3. Drafting a Parker mission and vision statement
Minutes:
• Full council is here tonight. Still need another caregiver if possible so spread the word.
• Approved minutes from last meeting (above)
• SIP was approved 2 weeks ago
o Looking at schedule and working with consultant
o Trauma -informed practices post -pandemic- staff being trained with 2-3 sessions
to go
o Working toward students' sense of belonging with various activities, esp Urban
Improv
• Working with staff (Jan 4 PD), students (March), and caregivers (Wed,
March 22 which is Family Night)
• Connected to advisory curriculum
• We need to talk it up as it gets closer to get lots of community members
to join
• Moving forward in school council meetings, Rochelle will share updates about how SIP
progress is going
o Then, we want a SIP drafted for new school year through spring so ready to go
for next school year
• Next up: creating an official mission and vision
o Community values exist: Kindness, community, personal best
• Flesh out a mission and vision from those values
o When were core values created? Over 13 years ago- do we want to keep them?
Page I 1
• Kids feel like they "don't fit" or are outdated
• Core value contracts are made in gym— Doug will share those as
a starting place for student voice
• People like the idea of "kindness"
o How to gather input from stakeholders about the core values?
• Start with advisory to collect student voice
• Do caregivers know what the values are?
• Create a family survey
• Invite Kurtis Martin to next meeting and try to gather some Boston
resident family input
What time for these meetings?
0 7:00 seems preferable for most people rather than 5:30, so we will try 7:00
starting in January
o Might be niceto try to have one meeting whereas many of us as possible try to
be in person for community building
What are other areas of work besides the SIP that people want the school council to
discuss this year?
o Enrichment opportunities— mostly after school (clubs and events) but down the
road thinking about enrichment during in -school time like team time and electives
Next steps:
o Survey students in advisory re: core values— look at that data
o Brainstorm/make connections about enrichment opportunities for next meeting
• We have a PTO -connected enrichment coordinator now, which is exciting
• Robotics? Makerspace?
o PTO meeting starts tonight at 7:00 if anyone is available
