MINUTES OF THE READING RETIREMENT BOARD MEETING
Thursday September 8, 2022
The Reading Retirement Board held a regular session meeting on Thursday September 8, 2022 in The
Conference Room, at 2 Haven Street, Unit 307, Reading, Massachusetts (Remote Participation)
The meeting was called to order at 9:36 A.M. by Chairman David Gentile with board members Carol
Roberts, Sharon Angstrom, John Halsey, Robert Beck, Board Administrator Colleen Loughlin, Assistant
Board Administrator Elaine Kelly, Any. David Jenkins and Any. Kier Wachterhauser.
OLD BUSINESS
RFP for Labor Council — The Board interviewed Atty. David Jenkins from KP Law at 9:45 am and
Any. Kier Wachterhauser from Murphy, Hesse, Toomey and Lehane, LLC at 10:45 am, as
prospective Labor Counsel candidates. Prior to this meeting, the Board prepared a list of questions
which the office staff emailed to the 2 firms, which were to be discussed during this interview
process. There were a series of questions that each candidate responded to, with the Board members
asking questions where they felt necessary. One of the requests the Board had asked for from each
firm was to provide a list of clients they have worked with regarding an employee handbook with a
point of reference, prior to the interview, in an effort to contact these clients for references. Given
that neither fmn complied with this request, the Board addressed this concern with each firm. The
Board requested again that each firm provide the Retirement office staff with names of clients these
frons have worked with, as well as a point of contact. Upon receipt of these references, the office
staff will forward them to Sharon Angstrom. Sharon will call each reference and report back to the
Board at the September 21, 2022 regular session Board meeting. The Board members felt that this
would give them better clarity in making the selection for Labor Counsel.
Robert Beck joined this open session at 10:45 am.
