• Meeting Called to Order at 6:51
• Motion made to accept minutes from June 2022: all voting members voted in favor to accept minutes
with noted corrections.
Select Board Uaison Report/ ReCalc Update —Karen Herrick
• Recent Forum participant. Very informative.
• Update on RFP status. SB discussed it in executive session. Walgreens offered a 10 year lease for $1BKmo$36K
increase after 10 years) for 15,000 sq ft. ada compliant, located in Downtown Reading, available parking is about
30 public spaces, 6 dedicated spaces. Town is looking into alternative parking for all town staff. Initially, overall
SB favorable for short term use but need to do further research to assess other costs (i.e. build out costs, ADA
compliance, etc).
Election of Officers
• After motions made and vote taken the following members were elected for FY23 -
• COA Chair: Marilyn Shapleigh, Vice Chair: John Parsons, and Secretary: Nancy Ziemlak
FY23 Meeting Schedule
• After discussion, motion made and members voted in favor of meeting on the first Monday of the month. FY 23
Meeting Dates: Sept 5 will be moved to Sept 6 due to the Holiday, 10/3, 11/7, 12/5, 1/2, 2/6, 3/6,4/3, 5/1, 6/5,
8/7
Welcome New Members
• Rosemarie DeBenedetto (Associate), Karen Janowski (Associate), Nancy Tawadros (Associate), Beverly
Cunio (Associate).
• It was suggested that new members review the town's Council on Aging website for further information.

Elder Services Report
• New Senior Center Coordinator has been hired and starting August 15", full time M -Th 8:00-4:30, Fri 8:00-12:00
• Jenna is coordinating ARPA Funding activities. Some of these programs currently include trips in OCr/NOV
which will be discounted 25%-50% using the ARPA funding. Also, planning to collaborate with the Library for a 6
week "Wellness Wednesdays" series. Also looking into RCN recording the program sessions for later viewing. It
was suggested when discussing with the Library to schedule evening activities for working seniors.
• Memory Caf€ will be scheduled again in collaboration with Stoneham, Also, Elder Affairs is actively recruiting
volunteers, currently about 25 applications, which will be reviewed.
• A participation report is attached below with details.
Financial Report
• Three reports are attached. Marilyn reviewed the purpose of each fund. The reports are attached to the
minutes each month for background information. Amy reviewed the most recent expenditures.
Plans to Recognize Sally Hoyt's Service to Reading
• Plans are well underway for August 17 Proclamation Signing, 9:30am, Pleasant Street Center. lCoffee and
pastries included
• Sally will also be recognized at the monthly Birthday Lunch on August 25u' at ipm
Elder Services Requests for Funding
• September Funding Request for $600 for monthly Birthday Lunch. All voting members voted in favor of the
request from funds from Burbank Trust.
• September Funding Request for $250 for a Welcome Coffee with the New Senior Center Coordinator. All voting
members voted in favor of the request from funds from Burbank Trust.
Discussion of possible use of Trust Funds for furniture etc in expanded/new space (if/when the opportunity arises)
• Marilyn was asked to present the idea to COA for the possible purchase of furniture forthe temporary Senior
Center Site should one become available
• Jenna suggested a meeting with Amy O'Brien, Sharon Angstrom, Mark Dockser, others to further understand the
details of the Trust Funds especially in relation to this question.
