Topics of Discussion:
1. Call to order:
• Welcome & introduction of new members
• Elect co-chair: Katie Cole was elected.
• Elect secretary to record minutes: Chris Mauro was elected.
o Submitted for review within 7 days, forwarded to Town Clerk within 10
days
o Use template provided by Town Clerk
• Agree on meeting format (in-person or Zoom)
• All member in agreement with Zoom format for meetings this school
year.
2. Public Comment: Members introduced themselves and discussed their interest in
joining School Council.
3. Review Open Meeting Guidelines and Conflict of Interest law
—Sarah reminded members of Open Meeting Guidelines and Conflict of Interest Law
forms she sent in advance of the meeting and thanked members for signing these
forms.
• Sign off sheets completed and sent to Town Clerk—This was completed ahead of
the meeting start.
4. Review of Committee Responsibilities
• Discuss ideas for School Improvement Plan
• School Building Budget
• Revised/updated Parent Handbook with new regulations

S. Review/Acceptance of Minutes (lune 7, 2022): Members had the opportunity to review
the draft minutes from the lune 2021 meeting and voted unanimously to approve them,
6-0.
6. New Business: Focus areas for this year
• School Improvement Plan Draft
o Members provided comment on Improvement Plan items including
Supportive and Safe Learning Environment and Coherent Instructional
Systems.
o Discussed past student mentoring model that will be returning. Katie and
Tonia who have experience with is model spoke about positive impact on
student who otherwise do not feel as connected to school community as
others, also adding to identified students' sense of self esteem.
Reviewed the various approaches to building school community,
including grade -level mindfulness/wellness activities, morning meeting,
assemblies, etc.
o Katie and Tonia provided positive feedback on roll-out of new curriculum
systems including teacher coaching model, opportunities to work
collaboratively to troubleshoot challenges, average 3 year
implementation model that supports consistency across classrooms while
allowing for enhancements along the way.
• Instructional Leadership Team Introduction
o Reviewed structure and format of Killam Instructional Leadership Team.
7. Other: Professional Development —this was discussed in terms of coaching and
professional development for our staff in the two curriculum areas of Illustrative
Mathematics (Grades K-5) and ARC Core Literacy (Grades 3-5).
8. Adjournment: The meeting was adjoined by Sarah at 4:15pm. School Council will
reconvene January 17, 2023
