Town of Reading 2822 SEP 12 AM 7: 32 Meeting Minutes Board - Committee - commission - Council: Trails committee Date: August 3, 2022 Building: Address: Purpose: Time: 7:00pm Location: Mattera Cabin Session: Open Version: Final Attendees: Members - Present: Kathy Kelly chair Will Finch Ray Vaillancourt John Parsons associate Ben Ream John Kastrinos associate Members - Not Present: Thomas Gardiner associate David Williams Others Present: Chuck Tirone Liaison Tim Kievan Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Ray Vaillancourt The meeting was held at Mattera Cabin and brought to order at 7:04pm Topics of Discussion: 1) Approve minutes- unanimous 2) ARPA Request Update ARPA was funded We will get shelving for the cabin garage Chuck Tirone reported that we have $9070.80 left in the ARPA funds Trails committee Town budget has $2933.62 Total $12,004.42 We just paid for 86 feet of trail at $30 a foot Page 1 1 Town of Reading Meeting Minutes 3) Pinevale Update Next step did 150 feet of boardwalk at Pinevale They also spread gravel in the parking area We will do an open house in the fall to showcase the work 4) Birch Meadow Area Discussion We will consider future work in the birch meadow area and the connection through Higgins to grove at Lowell. This would be part of a continuous loop connecting Reading conservation areas. There was discussion about who owns the properties and a town sewer easement in that area. Chuck Tirone will ask for a GIS map of the area for feasibility discussions 5) Fall Walk Will plan for a walk in October. Tim will bring it up at Town Forest Committee. Possibly Oct 15 or 22. Ben Ream will coordinate. 6) Kiosk/Sign Update Old signs have been removed by scouts. Painting of existing signs has not been done yet Ray will do "you are here" arrows for kiosks Kathy will do QR code for Alltrails and Gala GPS 7) Conservation Update Chuck Tirone reported that Conservation expressed concerns about the Eagle Project that Trails and Town Forest approved, that it may have been a repair instead of a replacement. They approved it but they wanted to communicate their hesitation. Veterans Way is being paved. The timeline for that trail easement is unknown A Trails committee member accidentally did some trail work on private property and the property owner was upset. We will be careful about private property in the future. 8) Priority List for Future Projects Kathy has compiled a list of priority projects for outside groups that volunteer Page 1 2 r e r0'60y'lK OppoPP Town of Reading Meeting Minutes Chuck would like to have a separate list for desired Eagle Scout Projects that contains larger projects such as the bridge at Lenetta Lane Specific projects were discussed such as the area behind REI and a bridge between Woodland st and the ball field. The committee will compile and prioritize a master list at a future meeting Kathy advocated for publishing a master trail plan for the town, similar to the town wide trail loop that Lexington has. 9) Other Business Tim Kirwan asked as a trail adopter about the process for reblazing trails.
