Topics of Discussion:
1) Approve minutes

Propose to make trail rules regulations larger and easier to read. We discovered that Brian
Bowe from conservation is already working on it.

3) Kiosks Signage
Looking to standardize and spruce up kiosks at trailheads. Maps, info about Trails
Committee with QR code, and info about dogs. Waiting for updated dog info from the town.
Ben Ream reported on Lob's Pond issues. Will plan a site visit when weather is nicer.
Kathy reported on the sign at Point One in Town Forest. One side is Ipswich river
watershed's responsibility and the other side is Trails Committee. David Williams agreed to
put educational information on the side of it that is Trails committee responsibility. John
Kastrinos will look into info about water quality tests (Oxygen, conductivity, pH, etc) related
to Reading's switch to MWRA water.
Kiosk at the end of Strout Ave is broken and serves no good purpose so Trails Committee
has abandoned it. Chuck Tirone suggested looking into who installed it to avoid offending
someone.
4) New Equipment at Cabin
Kathy ordered a new chainsaw and other equipment. There are volunteers to help clean out.
Bought tags for supply bins.
Chuck Tirone reported that the community garden uphill from Mattera parking area will be
getting started. State money was gotten for soil and equipment. Gardeners will be able to
plant in May. Trails committee can park in the lower lot by the garage when there is limited
parking.
Thomas Gardiner reported a hole in that lot. Chris Cole will look into it.
There was discussion about a damaged fence adjacent to the Mattera lot. It's conservation's
responsibility but there is no money available for repairs currently.
5) April 30u Collaboration Day
Kathy Kelly reported on collaboration with Town Forest Committee that will involve bridge
repair of the middle bridge on the Pine Ridge Trail. We will schedule a site visit when the
snow melts and a prep day at the cabin.
6) Updates from Conservation
John Kastrinos is reaching out to Scouts to update some Conservation signs at Kurchian and
Bare Meadow. He reports that realistically nothing would be done until fall because of the
scouting calendar. Can also reach out to Austin Prep for assistance. Other option is
eliminating some redundant signs. Chuck suggested putting it on agenda for a few meetings
and checking with scouts before removing scout -built signs.
Technically these signs are conservation commission responsibility but trails will step up to
help be Conservation has no budget.
7) Membership Update

Meeting Minutes
There is no contact with Susan Churchill, so she can't be replaced yet.
8) Other Business
Kathy asked about updating the website with trails available to be adopted. Chris reported
that Julie McDonald at DPW has access to Trails committee website and asked that she be
the person who updates it. The town is working on a new web site now, so Kathy will wait
until that is up to send the info over to Chris.
Bean Ream asked about the best process for asking DPW for assistance with downed trees
Chuck Tirone is currently the contact for that, and Kathy Kelly reports that the current
notification process is working well.
DPW will help acquire and place gravel in a muddy spot on the Cranberry Dam Trail.
There was discussion of having one representative each from Trails, Town Forest, and
Conservation meet regularly to compare notes on current projects. Tom Gardiner will be
part of that, as he is already on the Town Forest Committee.
