Topics of Discussion:
The meeting was conducted via Zoom and was called to order at 7:02pm.
1. Kurchian Woods: New Trail to be built in Kurchian Woods Spring 2022. Waiting on
Veterans Way developer to create an access trail to the stone wall.
2. Adopt -A -Trail Program: Kathy asked for a volunteer to assist with rewriting our
procedures and creating a process for maintaining contact with adopters. We also
discussed the need to identify ourselves when working out on the trails. We are
considering orange vests and name tags.
3. Winter Walk: Our 10th annual walk is scheduled for February 6th at 1:00 PM. This
event is a collaboration with Walkable Reading. This year's location will be in the
Town Forest. Flyers are posted around town and on social media
4. Budget: We have $1500 remaining in our budget and will meet up at Mattera Cabin
to inventory current stock and equipment and decide on our future needs.
S. Future of Lot #5 on Grove Street: The Trails Committee has been asked to advise on
the existing trails that are behind the lot. More information is forthcoming.
6. Grant Opportunities: We discussed current opportunities for this year's Mass Trails
request for proposals. We decided that Pinevale would be our focus. We will propose
to re -build the large bog bridge by Sunnyside Ave. We are planning a site visit to
decide on a plan for the proposal. Proposal is due 2/1/2022. Ben Ream has stepped
forward to write the proposal.
7. Other Business:
• Kathy asked for a volunteer to assist conservation with adapting their existing
land rules to a more readable format. Will Finch agreed to take this on. We all
agreed that it is important to post these rules at all trail heads.
• We agreed that it is vital to repair the numerous trail head signs and kiosks
that are in disrepair. Plans will be forthcoming.
• Chuck Tirone asked us to notify him of our requests for DPW assistance
before the first Tuesday of the month.
