Topics of Discussion:
This Meeting was called to Order via Zoom at 7:05 PM, September 1st, 2021
1. Minutes (amended) from the meeting on June 9 were reviewed and approved.
2. Updates on the picnic table and Kiosk at Mallet Conservation Area
The wood to construct a general use picnic table will be delivered by the Department
of Public Works to the glen off of Willow Street Thursday, September 9, 2021.
Members of The Reading Trail Committee will assemble this picnic table Friday
afternoon, September 10 at approximately 2:30 PM. Ben will bring standard
wrenches, hammers, and screwdrivers. Also, Chuck Tirone and Ben will meet at
8:00 AM Thursday at the garage under the Camp Mattera Lodge to procure any
unique hardware necessary to construct the picnic table, and transport these
materials over to the Mallet Glenn. Assigned members of the Committee will spray
paint where exactly we want the kiosk to go, Tom or Will?) and new marks on the
trail head. Friday 2:30 AM - Picnic Table Assembly
3. Our New Liason - Ann Landry
While we will all welcome her to RTC, Kathy will act as point person to let her know
our plans, budget, etc.
4. Emergency Funding
Due to the increased usage of outdoor facilities following the pandemic, RTC is
pursuing additional funds to ensure sage and proper maintenance. It is unclear at
the time of these notes where we stand in regards to these funds.
S. Town Forest 90th Anniversary Celebration
The Town Forest is celebrating its 90th anniversary (1) Saturday, September 25,
from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM starting at Wood End Elementary School. As he is a
member of the Town Forest Committee, Tom Gardiner would be a logical person to
ask any questions.
6. Trail Adopter Outreach
We are still in great need of trail adopters. We have 16 bona fide trails, with only
half adopted. That leaves 8 that need maintenance. Perhaps by asking friends and
groups we can begin to fill these empty slots.
7. Committee Status
A fond farewell to departing Committee members. Your expertise, dedication, and
camaraderie will be sorely missed.
B. Trails Work Schedule this week (the tenth and the eleventh of september, this Friday
and Saturday,2021). We will build the picnic table this Friday at 2:30 at The Maillet
Glenn.
We will conduct an on-site review trail prospectus on Saturday at 10:30 AM, 443
Haverhill at Stonewall Road.
9. New Projects
Trail and bridge prospective project at Linnetta Ln. (Will Finch point person for this
project.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 6, 2021
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.
