Human Relations Advisory Committee Date: 2021-05-13 Time: 7:00pm Building: Town Hall Location: Town Zoom Call Address: Remote Session: Purpose: Monthly Meeting Version: Final Attendees: Members - Present: Josh Goldlust, Kyung Yu, Ashley Gross, Maddy Herrick Members - Not Present: David Clark, Dani DeVirgilio Others Present: Lisa Racine, Ally Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Josh Goldlust Josh calls meeting to order at 7:05 pm Agenda: 1. Sharing- a. Town meeting seemed horrific, at least some of the language and anti LBGTQ rant. A bit upsetting. b. Excited for pride month c. Excited about shots&vaccines progress and CDC update. Delicate process about the mask mandate at the library 2. Police Read Out (Chief comments)- a. Chief was not in attendance and no stand in present b. Swastika in Coolidge middle school 2 weeks ago. Follow up at next meeting. 3. Library budget/Director recap a. Ally recap on Amy's behalf. Positive overall. Library funding was approved. Looking forward to filling that position & having it developed. Budget approved which is also supportive of the position. b. Lisa-Yes some unfortunate feedback. Points of frustration but reinforced why we need this director. Library staff is really happy and looking forward to this. c. Question from Ashley-advisory board a real thing?Yes a real thing d. Josh-is there a timeframe for when the position will be posted?Ally, not yet e. Josh Grant timing- (Ally)should find out about it in early July. Socially conscious programming. Josh to submit application to the town to hang sign on town common b. Libraryfor June I. Book list ii. Teen room-pride club or reading challenge grades 6-12 iii. Children's room- Library's are for everyone Grab bag of chalk for families to spread positive messages throughout the town.Throughout the month iv. Mondays meet the Author v. Josh asked How can HRAC help to communicate?Ally-Tap into Reading sectors and community groups.Also what other things are the town doing? A. Ashley-aren't there pride oriented groups in the schools?yes the group is GSA in high school or middle school?Josh can reach out to middle school principal to see if there are connections there vii.Maddy-What about signage?Ashley-what about stickers??Visible within town. Maddy can reach out to see about options for signage.Ashley-Can we give out stickers at the library, like on a grab back table? Lisa/Ally-as long as it is generic and not for a specific candidate or person. Ally will confirm with Amy. viii. Also ability to use RPL platform to cross promote even if it isn't specifically hosted by the library. All-let's think about things we can cross promote or amplify. S.
