HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-12-08 School Council - RMHS Minutes SCHOOL COUNCIL I MINUTES TOu, , 1 QED -IERK TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2020 1 5:30 PMA. 10�1 APR 2j P Meeting celled by PRINCIPAL BOYNTON r Lf un.Donahue M 3` 22 ai IV Type of meeting Monthly Council Meeting anne Downing ichelle Greenwalt Facilitator Kathleen Boyn[on ichelle Hopkinson Eileen Manning Ryan McGibbon Pooja Parsons Connor Patterson Trey Skehan AGENDA TOPICS 2020-2021 Reading Memorial High School Handbook Review Proposed Changes regarding GPA, Grade Scale, Semester/YR Transcript, Class Levels, & Rank Proposed Changes regarding GPA • Move to the UMASS GPA Calculation-widely used among 4-year colleges • Phase in 3rd quarter this year • Eliminate the-.3 penalty immediately • Combine CP/SCP now College Prep Proposed Changes to Grade Scale • Keep A+an the transcript, but weight A and A+the same (consistent with Wass GPA formula) - which results in a more accurate GPA • Remove F-as a grade category • Keep both formulas in handbook for one year for students in upper grades who would be affected Prepared by:Scouten,Stacy Proposed Changes to Semester vs. Year Transcript • Issue credits at the end of the academic year instead of the semester • Still keep familiar format with quarter, midterm and semester grades, but issuing credit at the end of the year • Implemented this year or next pending Rediker system requirements Proposed Change to Class Rank and Deciles • Stop calculating and communicating decile and class rank • Causes undue anxiety and stress to students at all levels • Many schools are moving away from this process Additional Comments: • Correction of parent/guardian typos • Mr. Skehan: suggested a notation in the handbook under the credit requirements for math to note that "MassCore differs from RMHS requirements for acceptance into 4-year university. • Mr.Skehan:would also like to see math move to R semesters to be more consistent with the MassCore requirements • Ms. Boynton was going to look for clarification with Lynna Williams on pg.11 of the handbook on, "all students must carry 23-25 credits per year, unless approved by an administrator" • Course selection process updated and made clear Adjourning • Principal Boynton voices that the above listed will be address before next School Council meeting and do all attending agree: o All present are heard agree and give thumbs up • the changes will be sent to Linda E.for inclusion in the school committee packet for their next SC meeting Next School Council Agenda • Tuesday,January 12'h • Agenda-starting with Century Club �I Prepared by:Scouten,Stacy
