Levels, & Rank
Proposed Changes regarding GPA
• Move to the UMASS GPA Calculation-widely used among 4-year colleges
• Phase in 3rd quarter this year
• Eliminate the-.3 penalty immediately
• Combine CP/SCP now College Prep
Proposed Changes to Grade Scale
• Keep A+an the transcript, but weight A and A+the same (consistent with Wass GPA formula) -
which results in a more accurate GPA
• Remove F-as a grade category
• Keep both formulas in handbook for one year for students in upper grades who would be affected
Prepared by:Scouten,Stacy
Proposed Changes to Semester vs. Year Transcript
• Issue credits at the end of the academic year instead of the semester
• Still keep familiar format with quarter, midterm and semester grades, but issuing credit at the end of
the year
• Implemented this year or next pending Rediker system requirements
Proposed Change to Class Rank and Deciles
• Stop calculating and communicating decile and class rank
• Causes undue anxiety and stress to students at all levels
• Many schools are moving away from this process
Additional Comments:
• Correction of parent/guardian typos
• Mr. Skehan: suggested a notation in the handbook under the credit requirements for math to note
that "MassCore differs from RMHS requirements for acceptance into 4-year university.
• Mr.Skehan:would also like to see math move to R semesters to be more consistent with the
MassCore requirements
• Ms. Boynton was going to look for clarification with Lynna Williams on pg.11 of the handbook on,
"all students must carry 23-25 credits per year, unless approved by an administrator"
• Course selection process updated and made clear
Adjourning
• Principal Boynton voices that the above listed will be address before next School Council meeting
and do all attending agree:
o All present are heard agree and give thumbs up
• the changes will be sent to Linda E.for inclusion in the school committee packet for their next SC
